Next 'Greatest' Poll - Discussion

Recommended Posts

Alright my fellow doyles!

I'm up for running another 'Greatest' poll after the 'Greatest Squad' one seemed to be enjoyed. Next question is - what do you want it on?

A few options that've been bandied about or I've though of:

Greatest Squad - Pre-1995 Edition

@BillyWoofs_shinpad I think it was put this one forward. There's a handful of squad numbers from the 70s/80s, so it could work, though could also be position based.

Worst Squad - Boro Edition

Think it was @Liquid who suggested this one. Again, could be squad number or position based.

Greatest Concept Kit - Boro Edition

Saw a site this morning which gave me this idea - also picked up from the kit vote the club ran on Twitter earlier in lockdown. Could run it like a Knock-Out Tournament with Home and Away on either side to come up with the Greatest Concept Kit pairing as voted by OneBoro fans.

If you have any further ideas, feel free to drop them here. We can have a vote on the final selection.

I think worst squad would bring plenty of discussion (and humour).

Worst squad for me. Would be fun

It would be too easy, just copy out the most recent team sheet.

Worst squad could be fun

Given our history of transfers, it has to be the worst squad. I could see that being a lot of fun (even if it forces us to relive some painful memories).

I'd prefer to have a greatest squad thread. We haven't had a lot of positive things to discuss on this forum for a few years now and a worst squad thread isn't going to lighten the misery very much!

I dunno, I think we've had a lot of fun discussion about some of the worst players to play for us on here. Regardless of what's happened this season, I don't think many of this current squad fit into the bracket of 'worst in 25 years' so it's not likely to descend into just firing off the current batch of players. I guess perhaps the most popular contributions on here would be Bola, Browne and Gestede. But two of them are very young and I think there's still hope for improvement, particularly in Browne's case. And Gestede is not one of the worst players I've seen play for us, simply one of the worst signings when you consider the fee, wage and point at which he was signed. If he'd have come in on a free and was on a wage more respective of his ability, I don't think many here would have had half as much a problem with him.

The current team is the worst one I’ve seen since the mid 80’s, it’s not about individuals, it’s about the team as s whole. I think we’ve got a terrible manager and a team that plays awful football and very rarely wins.

I mean, the idea of making a worst squad poll is not based on picking literally the worst performing squad out of any season. It's absolutely about individuals, just like the greatest one was. 😄

I'd go for the worst squad and do it by squad numbers again, could be interesting.

    • You are all aware that I gave him the opportunity to stop being a prat and be part of the forum, indeed the man himself stated he would like to stay but sadly once again and without being banned he chose a new guise and therefore broke forum rules about multiple accounts. His latest disguises are no longer welcome and are now deleted. Adam know doubt you will read this before tring to find away to get back but everyone susses you out and simply put please stay off from the forum.
    • With all of the build up and excitement of yesterday gave little time to discuss the announcement of Ryan Shotton leaving the club and declaring he is moving onto a new opportunity. With Covid 19 obviously no opportunity to wave goodbye to the fans though I am sure there must be twitter comments circulating from him. Thanks for your time and effort playing for MFC Ryan and personally I wish you well moving on. You are my grandson's favourite player and you were brilliant with him when he went to see Boro for the first time, but he is a growing lad and knows he will not see you again in a Boro shirt and his attitude was "oh well". Personally I thought Shotton was a decent enough player and think he would have improved more under Warnockas there were signs with his last two performances. However he wanted away, can't blame him so all in all best of luck toyou
    • We looked a little shaky in the first 20 odd minutes but our confidence grew through the game, and even when they scored I felt that they didn't seem that good and that we could get something from this game, just as long as our heads didn't drop. Fair play they didn't, Dijksteels confidence grew into the game too and it was nice to see him getting into some good positions, supporting Spence. Pears although was very shouty which is good just looks a bit lightweight for a keeper to me. There are alot of teams below us and its bloody close points wise, I'd say we could be safe but let's get at least a point from Cardiff to secure it. That win felt so good last night though.
    • What a great result. We look safe now even if we aren’t mathematically safe yet.    good to see Tav finally get a start.
    • Really do think we are forgetting our defence here, they put on a good show and effort was maintained. Like the Millwall game we played as a team and kept going. We know Roberts is a greedy little so and so but he showed today that he can produce the goods when he does not have time to ponder what he will do and where he will go next. So well done our back line, and they did start some promising attacks from defence
