Again, who is judging him? Doesn't look like it's sinking in... People are judging the style of football we will be playing next year, not the individuals...

I've shown you one example of who is judging him, I've also just shown NB4 that I'm obviously not the only one in this thread who interpreted his post in that way. In fact, by the looks of it, it's only you and NB4 that interpreted it the way you have...

Hi guys! PAOK fan here from Greece. You are getting a really hard worker in Akpom. He is a top lad and a good professional. When he first came, he was considered a bench player. It was the 2018-19 sea

Morsy nearly done

Williams fee nearly agreed. 1.75million rising to 2.5 (So 1.75 then 😂).

but you're judging that based on the individuals, doesn't that make them intrinsically linked?

And predominantly on the individuals phsyical attributes.

My opinion is we need two CBs if Fry and Friend remain

One needs to be a solid top end Champo defender. Probably to play alongside Fry. Someone like Gibsom

The 2nd CB i always thought might come from leagues below as it needs to be someone who happy to maybe not be an automatic starter but who is competent when needed.

For that reason am happy to take someone like Goode. People mention Dickie but am reading fees of £2 to £3m for him.

i agree with this, hopefully we can get gibson back as he is the only top end championship player i think we can afford. i mean whats the going going rate for a centre back these days?, minimum about 6/7 mil for a proven centre back?  i cant see us throwing more than 2-3 mil at single player considering we need to sign about 8, so our best bet is gibson probably on loan or lucking out on a decent free transfer.

Okay fair enough, I'm probably judging the individual's style of play based on the little bit I've read about Goode and Northampton. But do you think we would be interested if it wasn't for his physicality?

So far, we have been linked with target men, two full backs who, having read the Reading and Sheff Wed fans forums, aren't very good when they cross the halfway line, and a centre half who played for a route one team, is 6ft5 and is a long throw specialist. Do you not think, based on this information, it is reasonable to assume that our game plan might not be the most entertaining next season?

This is not the same as me saying that I think all four of these signings will be terrible signings. They will probably all do very well in a Warnock set up. I'm just anxious as to what a Warnock set up might look like.

I think there may have been a different reaction, with those concerned about Warnock's appointment, if we were to have been linked with a few pacy wingers, given we are massively lacking in that area. And maybe Warnock is thinking let's build from the back first. Which is completely fair. But, at the moment, I feel that the doubts around the Warnock appointment are only being supported by the types of players that we have been linked with so far. Let's hope that the links to more attacking players are to come soon!

Don't take it too literally, its a bit of humour, the point is that whilst both are in a parlous state you need to make decisions on what is going to be of benefit to you most now, not what you might want, like or dream about.

You should have paid more attention in all those Sunday school classes, you can't start a parable with "there was this bloke with a terrible Football Club near a River", or there again, thinking about it maybe you can?

To be fair, I wasn't taking it literally, which is why I said it was a poor analogy.  I don't believe Boro to be in a parlous state.  By the sounds of it you do so we will clearly have a different point of view about what we should be looking to do.

Goode was involved in 3 of the 4 goals they scored at Wembley. The last goal they scored was also as a result of a long-throw, much more directly too. Though I think Exeter had pretty much threw in the towel at 2-0 in the 2nd half, their lad getting sent off was completely daft.

Have we actually been linked to any player other than Goode? All I’ve seen is some random names on here, nothing concrete elsewhere and certainly no bids in. Full backs who can defend and a tall centre back doesn’t mean we will only play a certain way surely? We were caught so often on set pieces and poor positioning last season, a stable defence seems sensible to me.
Anyway, hopefully there’s some exciting names linked soon or this could be a long 6 weeks!

I think Dickie is now looking too expensive not unlike Toney who to me has potential but at the money being mentioned is ridiculous. EFL Clubs will be facing a very bleak start of the new season with zero takings from the turnstiles. Leagues One and Two didn't even get to finish their seasons because of cost issues as much as anything else. They will all be anxiously looking at their bank statements, selling a few players will make a big difference. Championship Clubs are only marginally better off but not by much and in the case of some of them waiting for EFL punishments it could actually be a lot worse. Derby through everything at getting up but here they remain.

Fees should therefore be in line with the new financial reality Football now finds itself in as will contracts and wage offers. For Players (and their agents) its a terrible time to come to the end of a contract because they are very unlikely to get a new one on the same or similar terms unless they are progressing up the Leagues. It means easy pickings for those higher up the food chain as everyone outside of the Premiership tighten purse strings.

With the Goode link it appears that we are looking for the next Dickie rather than the obvious stand out performer which is what our scouting network should have been doing (and in fairness maybe they have). I doubt that he is seen as a first choice CB just yet but enough to put serious pressure on whoever is getting starts. Lending them Wood for a season may even make the deal sweeter still for all parties.

Note this final quote in the summary:

"If he was to move into the top two tiers, it would be fascinating to see how he’d cope if he went to a club who focused on playing out from the back. That’s something he isn’t expected to do within Northampton’s tactics."

Sounds like he's a good fit for what we want to do now, just a shame as to what that might mean if we try to do something else, something we know could well happen in a year's time.

Still, if he does well in a Warnock side in the Championship, we could at the very least make some money off him if the transfer is for as little as £750k.

An assumed style of football, which we didn't play at all in the 8 games Warnock was in charge and which Cardiff didn't play
