The Summer/Autumn transfers thread 2020 aka TURN DOWN FOR WHAT(more)

I get that impression, unless they bounce back immediately.

It's interesting as Bournemouth have been in the Prem for 5 seasons and have near enough spent all their income on players and wages. They've not upgraded their stadium (1 stand is still technically a temporary stand) and they've only recently started work on a new training ground.

Burnley on the other hand have barely spent much on players and wages. But they have invested heavily into their infrastructure. In the last 3/4 years their academy has gone from a Cat 3 to a Cat 1. They've built a brand new training complex to incorporate the academy too.

Interesting how Burnley and Dyche in particular are framed as backward-minded, whilst Bournemouth and Howe have been lauded for some time for their forward-thinking. Yet actually in terms of how they've spent their money, it would seem to be the opposite way around.

Hi guys! PAOK fan here from Greece. You are getting a really hard worker in Akpom. He is a top lad and a good professional. When he first came, he was considered a bench player. It was the 2018-19 sea

Morsy nearly done

Williams fee nearly agreed. 1.75million rising to 2.5 (So 1.75 then 😂).

Is that not including parachute payments?

Their total income was close to £130 Million in 18/19. But £115 million of that comes from PL broadcasting. So they get 55% of that £115 Million as a parachute payment for the coming season (Roughly £63 Million).

Whilst we clearly need a few defenders, I'm hoping and praying we fix the problem we have seemingly had since forever... pace and width.

We need at least 2 wide players who both create and score goals. We need a pacey forward ideally and also a set piece specialist.

Buying defenders a centre mid and forward won't fix our creativity problems. Especially as Roberts has gone now.

I completely agree. Yes we need some defenders as we have lost a few. But it wasn’t because of our defensive record that we ended in the mess we did last season! We had the 12th best defensive record in the division last season. But we scored the least goals in the whole division.

Every season we seem to buy defenders, central midfielders and strikers but we never seem to address the biggest issue that we’ve had for the last 5/6 years which is creativity. When was the last time we bought a decent winger/creative midfielder?

A number 10 and 2 quality goal scoring wingers minimum imo so we'll probably sign a CM

We'll never get the wingers we need in England, we'll be priced out and why would they join us anyway we just barely avoided relegation, can't pay too high wages and not sure how much pull Warnock has for attack minded players

Agree with all that but at the moment we have no defence left at all. At least we have a few Strikers plus Tav and Wing if push come to shove at the opposite end.

We have Dijksteel and Fry and now no Friend or Johnson from Warnock's last defensive line up. Its questionable if he sees Spence and Coulson as Full Backs or Wingers or at best maybe Attacking Wing Backs but I don't think thats his preferred set up with the pair of them.

We currently only have Fry and Wood as central defenders. Fry is best with someone more experienced alongside him.  Wood has hardly any first team experience at this level.  Dijksteel and McNair can cover there,  but it would weaken other positions.  Right/left back we have Dijksteel, Spence and  Coulson (with the latter two being better as wing backs) plus Howson can cover there.  We are as short in deference as we are on the wings.  I would actually consider an experienced CB to play alongside Fry (or two CBs if Fry moves on) to be our top priority for recruitment.

Agreed we've been crying out for a  decent wide man or two for a long time and its never been addressed,  also we need a lot more creativity from  midfield a good No10, someone who has the ability to play the killer ball, and score a few goals as well, the last player we had who could do that was Ramirez, our forwards have been feeding on scraps at times.

I think creative attacking players will be too expensive for us this year so we would probably have to look into the loan market for that one. Maybe the likes of Jack Clarke, Connor Gallagher, Smith-Rowe etc.

I mean we do have two right backs and 2 left backs in our squad. It’s just whether Warnock is happy with them but we do have them. I agree though that we are massively light at centre back with only Fry as the only natural centre back in the squad and desperately need to address that. However we are just as light on the wings. We arguably don’t have a winger in the whole squad. We can obviously play Tav there but he’s not a natural winger. After centre back, the wings are the next priority position in my opinion. We will end up in exactly the same position as last year if we don’t sort out our lack of creativity!

Grant Hall was an obvious target I'm glad we are pushing hard to get him, Alex Bass has a little more experience than Pears different story than targeting Charltons player of the season GK this story tells me Warnock must not rate Pears at all.

On the fullback discussion after seeing what Warnock did with Patterson at Cardiff because he 'could not defend' I don't think we'll see Coulson at LB again and wouldn't shock me if he moved Dijksteel into central midfield if he could get a Gunter in the door.

Please don't tell me the club see Spence and Coulson as wingers so won't prioritise that position my god 😞

Night and day difference between them and actual wingers

I do like the way Warnock is shaping up here

it looks like a no nonsense approach , which is what we needed for years , we can’t hang around  playing games with agents and over thinking everything.

identify the players we need and see if they are up for it.. if not move on.
I liked what he did with Gestede it shows he isn’t for pandering and won’t take nonsense, it’s just what we need at this moment.

That would be fair enough if we hadn't lost 3 CB's in the last 2 months

I’m not sure if potential incoming players will have the same positive belief as you do. If I was a player contemplating my future and deciding whether to uproot my family to another part of the country I’d like a little time to think about it and wouldn’t really appreciate being rushed into a decision.
