Denzel Zanzibar 6,931
We'd be crazy to sell Paddy on his current form but I can see why we would if the money was good enough.

Is he talking Robert's or a similar type player? You'd assume so, or maybe a target man. Basically a player who would allow us to switch up how the team is set up.
Skinemrippers 894
It’s really positive that we managed to get those 4 core players over the line. Serious issues ahead for all non PL teams, you’d hope that we could still pick up some freebies on a short term contract for low wages, if not loans. What a nightmare. So pleased we have Gibson - I know he has his critics but he won’t let us go under.

I sincerely doubt he's after a new left-back when we have 3 on our books and he's given Johnson the #3 shirt.

Guess they're worried they won't be able to keep filling their squads with cheap overseas talent and might actually have to use their academies for their intended purpose. Not sure how they can make those sort of demands, as surely our continued ability to sign overseas players will depend entirely on the details of the deal negotiated by the government. I would have thought it was out of the FA's hands. Anyway, it seems they're willing to open their wallets for the EFL...with strings attached. Seeing figures of £200-250m, depending on which paper you look at. Still pales into comparison with the estimated £1bn PL teams have spent on transfers this season...despite the loss of income. It is entirely up to the Gov't to make the rules for who is and isn't allowed to work in UK after Brexit. They have asked the FA, the EFL and the Premier League to come up with a joint united proposal for rules applying to footballers, who will obviously meet the minimum salary level and be skilled workers. Whether Gov't accepts the eventual proposals from football is entirely up to them, but obviously a jointly agreed proposal stands a far better chance of being accepted by Gov't. The problem for the PL is that the FA see it as an opportunity to curb the number of young players coming from abroad - which they see as undermining the chances of young British players in Academies from getting a fair chance at developing into future England players. Pl obviously want to get best young players from round the globe - so football is divided and not putting a strong joint case to Gov't. If this continues, Gov't might well back FA. PL therefore see this bailout request as an opportunity to force FA into supporting them.

I'm usually the last person to back the FA on anything, but given the detrimental effect the PL has had on the rest of football, I'm rather hoping they get their way on this.

Or, alternatively, we've wasted money on areas of the team where we already had numbers, and the areas of the team that were weaknesses last season are still weaknesses now. 1
