The Summer/Autumn transfers thread 2020 aka TURN DOWN FOR WHAT(more)

Thats why I'm not annoyed about having Warnock in charge or stressing about transfers. If the world is back to normal in 12 months and club is on a better financial footing then thats probably a good starting point for a new manager.

Why would the club be on a better financial footing in 12 months time?  We should have just appointed this new manager now if that's what we wanted to do, but clearly it isn't.

I think he was saying that supporters will be back at matches by then, so the club will have the extra income from fans attending matches.

The club had most of that income last season regardless.  We only missed 5 home games due to Covid and by the sound of it we won't have full houses for quite some time this season, that's if we do at all.  I'd be surprised if they were able to increase commercial revenue this season, stuff like sponsorship will be well down.  This summer was an ideal time to bring in a new manager and we did that, we brought in Warnock.  Now every player we sign is a financial resource being spent on his behalf rather than someone else's, and we are going to sign more players, even if things haven't gone to plan so far.

I'm thinking if we move players out of the club who are on moderate to big contracts over the next 12 months.

We've obviously got next to no income at the moment either because of no crowds. This time next year we'll hopefully be starting a new season with a load of season tickets sold.

Looking at his photo today if it was Whiteman at Rockliffe his hair must grow at a rapid rate of knots. He is at the Donny match but not in squad.

What photo ?

We've just moved players on with moderate to big contracts and we've sold close to 8 or thousand season tickets, haven't we?  We're going to sign players this summer and some of them will have decent contracts.

Everyone knows the best way to get fans back into the stadium is by not signing players and making them watch the same team that nearly got relegated last season, duh

We will be limited all season anyway, why bother?

Surely next summer the price of all players will go up again with the increased revenue from fans returning, can't see players like Lowe, Leko, Williams, Moore, etc going for that cheap again albeit cos of Wigan's situation

Plus we'll have an even bigger rebuild next summer with some of our best players' contracts expiring this season

We clearly had money to bid on these players it was just the structure of the deals thats let the deals down, dont understand why we haven't just offered them more upfront to get the deal done, majority of the rebuild done and give warnock a fighting chance of play offs

I think its obvious that the revenue is going to be down this season isn't it?

And without knowing what all the new players are going to be earning; all the stories seem to be indicating that we are trying to reduce our wage bill. For example Britt and Fletcher will be on pretty big contracts, do you think we'll be offering them the same deals in 12 months time?

On a similar note Shankland is not in the Dundee Utd team today.

Just seen he’s out for 4 weeks with an ankle injury - also misses the Scotland match

Are we not trying to sign players now?

    • How anyone can watch those ŕeplays and claim its a definate penalty is beyond everybody else. It was not a foul.
    • What I will say is I wish we played like we did in the 2nd half all the time because we'd be a far better team. Ball on the floor and use the technical players we have to create spaces and opportunities. Not long ball after long ball to 6ft and under forwards up against giant centre halves!  For me the play offs is a tall order now unless we go on a great run, which with our inconsistency so far this season looks unlikely. However, next season if we can retain the likes of Bolasie, Kebano, NML and add a quality goalkeeper and striker I think we'll have a great chance.
    • Well... What a ****heap of a day... I don't get to follow much in Lockdown as I spend 7.5 hours online tutoring on saturdays - but having watched back? Jesus Christ. Our play-off hopes are diminishing. If we don't make it, I'll be rooting for Barnsley. The turnaround under Ismaël is nothing short of incredible. They're also the only other viable northern club in contention...
    • Surprised by Quest as last week they were talking about how abuse of refs isn't right. But they has to be something done want some sort of VAR  in the championship as is very much a big spotlight on it. If a ref makes a blunder it can hinder their career like the Blackburn ref he hasn't had a game since.  I don't want VAR to rule of finger nail offsides but if they could see these game defining incidents would be alot less controversy and loss in reputation for the refs. As that ref must be feeling very anxious his decisions been shared all across social media right around the world. If was VAR the spotlight wouldn't be on him he wouldn't be receiving the abuse. Its needed to protect the refs really otherwise spirals out control.  In league 1 or 2 isn't the same like spotlight on it doesn't matter as much.
