The Summer/Autumn transfers thread 2020 aka TURN DOWN FOR WHAT(more)

If we've done our summer business assuming that we'd have 10k fans a week for the rest of the season from October then Gibson and anyone else involved in that decision making should be having their mental capacity tested. That would be one of the most reckless actions I've ever seen from our football club and as NB4 says, I simply can't see a smart businessman like Gibson doing that.

To be fair, did he say he expected 10k fans a week? all he is saying is there was an expectation that they would at least try to get fans in to stadiums in some capacity from October, even if its a few limited capacity games until restrictions were tightened again (especially with it being deemed as a fairly low risk in terms of spreading the virus if done correctly).

The difference now is that it is completely off the table and clubs now have all the income theyre gonna get for the season, even for the best ran clubs that will have had some kind of effect on their plans

Well if we dont bring in 2-3 more players then its likely the tea lady will get a game before the season finishes.

Maybe even Coulson will get a game

Even if this was business plan - all those 10k fans would be season ticket holders just about, wouldn’t they. Allowing for a lot of family tickets etc, the average income can’t be more than £360 per ticket, probably less. That’s £300 without VAT, or £3m over season. Say £3.5m including hospitality, catering etc sales.  According to Northern Echo figures we stand to lose £24M this year. This means it would have been £20m+ loss even if fans were allowed back. There’s something strange about those figures.

If fans can't go back, will there be some leeway with FFP rules to allow more investment to stop clubs from going bust?

If there’s no rescue from Premier League - and they do seem to be coming round to view that they need to do something - then just about every club in Championship will either break FFP rules ( if their owner is willing to pump enough money In) or will go bust ( if owner is not willing or able to put money in). Pretty sure FL will take view that breaking FFP rules is least of worries. In any case, if the clubs want to change the FFP rules they can do and the only reason they don’t currently is that the majority of owners  want to put some brakes on those that want to spend their way to Premiership. If enough need to break rules to survive, then the rules will get changed.

i do wonder how safe rule is  that says  players wages are preferred creditors if a club goes into administration and if you don’t pay them in full for whole of their contract then you go out of league. Up to now it has also acted to deter clubs from over spending ruinously, but if a few clubs go out of business and it looks like more are going to, then that rule might get changed to help clubs restructure and survive. Even the players must get that for most of them tearing up a contract and agreeing a new one on half the wages is better than getting nothing and having to look for a new club - where you will probably be offered less than half your old wages. Obviously some players would benefit from being a free transfer effectively, but probably Less and less the way things are going.

What's strange about those figures is that they've decided that the only income the club will have this year is from TV revenue, which won't be the case.  It's clearly an article designed to smooth the ground ahead of the transfer window closing.

The worry financially for the club is if alot of season ticket holders request refunds. Then we will be at the wall

    • Pfft. I hate that we always have these frantic stoppage time spells. Why do we leave it so late? Why do we not play like this during normal time? Created some decent chances and had Huddersfield very much on the back foot.  WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY...do we not do this from the off?   Should have been 3 points and very likely would have been if we'd kept playing like we did for the first 20 minutes. Tried to sit back for far too long. Worked for a while but eventually the pressure told and we collapsed into Woodgate-era defending. Took ages to get back into the game. Rallied but still couldn't remember how to defend. Huddersfield deserved the win. Would love to know what happened to us today...
    • 😂😂 one loss and so many people have wet the bed. Are you guys expecting us to now win every game and perform well every week? Come off it, the squad is still massively overachieving.
    • Warnock is getting blamed becuase he left it to late to change it and his subs were awful.
    • Because we're clearly gassed, he has Roberts stapled to the bench and he's sat there twiddling his thumbs till 80+ minutes. Horrible game management today.
    • We lost to them in 2013
