Really hope that's true. Seems like a pretty good source. I guess maybe this is who Warnock was hoping to have for this game but might not be in by the deadline to include him in the squad.

It was an overseas player I think he thought would be in this weekend.

Trying to work out what formation we might go with if this is the case if were wedded to the 5 at the back. I assume akpom, britt and roberts are must starts, along with tav. Its extremely difficult to fit those 4 players into a 532 and ensure the midfield gets enough protection. I think were going to switch formations.

I honestly think he goes back to the 433 with Roberts coming in, although even then I don't know how you fit them all in unless Akpom plays as one of the wider forwards.

I dont think tav is a must starter. He hasnt shown anything to warrant that in my opinion

I think the other signing were after will be a left back then we can either play 352. 433. 4231.

I think he has in the past? Not sure, but I'll be very glad to see it. Just dreading the thought of johnson deeper at left back, thats going to be the cause of many a goal against this season.

Especially if Fry winds up back at LCB. Fry & Johnson on the left is a recipe for disaster.

Take tav out of the team and replace him with roberts and were back to square one with only one creative player on the pitch. We need both.

Tav ended last season Under Warnock strongly, I’d agree though he’s been very quiet so far this season.

Great news on Roberts

in a 433 you could put Tav in midfield with Morsy and Howson, with Roberts competing with Akpom and Fletch for the 2 poisitons eitherside of Britt

theres a few combinations we could try, no guarantee they would work though

Tav had Roberts on the pitch with him for most of those final few games. Getting Roberts back may well free Tav up a bit as he's no longer our only creative source.

Tav always looks busy but its very rarely he creates anything imo. I would prefer 433 personally and play them both but i just wouldnt have tav down as a regular starter

I'm not convinced we do need them both on the pitch, certainly not at all times. I think the 3-4-1-2 can still work and offer us something a bit different with Roberts operating behind the strikers. But honestly, just knowing that, if this does go through, we can change the system up a bit to accommodate them both is a good thing.

Yeh id be happy with that. Tav as a mezzala. Definatly need another left back like. I would like one that can also play CB aswell. Especially if were playing with a 4 at the back. All 4 need to be solid. Djicksteel on the right.

I think Warnock likes Saville too much

It’s interesting the way the window is panning out. For a change the clubs seem to have a bit of power - the closer it gets to the deadline then players and agents asking top buck will start to sweat a bit - I wonder what deal Maddison finally got at Charlton after a couple of months without a job? I think it really could be a mad scramble next week when players left out of PL squads + free agents are suddenly faced with the prospect of being out in the cold. The lad we’ve been trying to get from Europe that Warnock talks about - go back Monday before the deadline, one last chance on our terms, take it or leave it?

    • What an absolutely stupid, pointless and annoying quiz. (9/22)
    • As the great Bill Bryson once said: It is not true that the English invented cricket as a way of making all other human endeavours look interesting and lively; that was merely an unintended side-effect. I don't wish to denigrate a sport that is enjoyed by millions, some of them awake and facing the right way, but it is an odd game. It is the only sport that incorporates meal breaks. It is the only sport that shares its name with an insect. It is the only sport in which spectators burn as many calories as players (more if they are moderately restless). It is the only competitive activity of any type, other than perhaps baking, in which you can dress in white from head to toe and be as clean at the end of the day as you were at the beginning. Imagine a form of baseball in which the pitcher, after each delivery, collects the ball from the catcher and walks slowly with it out to centre field; and that there, after a minute's pause to collect himself, he turns and runs full tilt towards the pitcher's mound before hurling the ball at the ankles of a man who stands before him wearing a riding hat, heavy gloves of the sort used to handle radioactive isotopes, and a mattress strapped to each leg. Imagine moreover that if this batsman fails to hit the ball in a way that heartens him sufficiently to waddle sixty feet with mattresses strapped to his legs he is under no formal compulsion to run; he may stand there all day, and, as a rule, does. If by some miracle he is coaxed into making a miss-stroke that leads him to being put out, all the fielders throw up their arms in triumph and have a big hug. Then tea is called and everyone retires happily to a distant pavilion to fortify for the next siege. Now imagine all this going on for so long that by the time the match concludes autumn has crept in and all your library books are overdue. There you have cricket.
    • Perversely, I think we might win this one. Warnock seems to be able to say all the right things to the players before games against good teams, and he'll know how to outfox Mick McCarthy. I imagine there are some angry players in our dressing room after that Monk-esque performance against Bristol City, and I could see us coming out of the blocks with a point to prove. However, a win is irrelevant to our promotion chances, because we'll then fall apart against Coventry and get embarrassed again. Rinse, repeat.

    • I don't know anywhere near enough about St Pauli or Bundesliga 2 to really say if it means anything, but I notice Stojanovic has only kept 1 clean sheet in his 8 games there, letting in 13 goals. In the same period Bettinelli has played 10 homes, kept 2 clean sheets, and let in 16. Fairly similar statistically, though I've not actually watched their games and I imagine Stojanovic made more saves in that period.
