Struggling to get excited by this. It's a body in the door I suppose. 3 goals in 8 games in the championship
estonpidge 1,449
If Warnock can get Sanogo to perform for the team, with no transfer fee and reasonable wages what's not to like, Pukki had been a failed talent but rocked this league, why not Sanogo?
TLF10 4,492
@Will. The French league outside top 4 cant be that bad given 7th placed Lyon reached semi finals of champions league. In process beating champions of Italy Juve and Runners up of PL Man City.

Best talent pool is irrelevant, Sanogo isn't a young unknown player. I'd be absolutely fine with this, he's a good option and from what I remember reasonably tidy with his feet. As a plan B I actually like the signing, as our starting striker I'd be worried. I could pick two players from each Ligue 1 side capable of playing for a top tier championship or premier league club. I probably should have clarified this in my original reply but it wasn't the dismissing of Sanogo that bothered me (completely reasonable I'd say, his record isn't amazing). It was the dismissal of the quality of the league.

We've also shed a lot of that over the summer, we must be down at around 50% now, at a guess? How is this sustainable for other clubs? This season could see a lot of clubs go bust if it continues the way It is..

And I think sanogo has the potential to be better than gestede (not difficult to be fair) so I'm okay with this if its on a low wage and fee so we can focus on the creativity in the side Anyone will be better than Gestede.

TAPOUT 361
59 minutes ago, Will said: Do you think this is because of either Britt or Fletch, or is it maybe because we had back to back managers who couldn't organise anything close to a competent attack? Fletcher is limited from what I see and I think people will be saying ‘ there’s a player in there somewhere’ all his career. He doesnt bring players into the game and gives defenders an easy game. Britt has never been part of a successful team anywhere in his career. His stats can look good at an individual level. I think that is because you have to set the team up for him to show his best. You cant blame him for that. I mean that was what he was all about, poaching, back to goal in the box. I dont think modern teams play like that, where you have to carry a man for him to show his best. I am not slagging him off. There have been games where he has absolutely put a shift in and tried to do things outside the box. Unfortunately it was wasted energy as it did the team no good and its not his thing. Both our strikers are hamstrung by our midfield. I mean Andy Peake had more energy than these. They were all bought as goalscoring midfielders who arrive late into the box and get shots off. Britt and Fletcher dont allow them to do that. Maybe with a big man who can be more of a team player will allow us to see one of them in a better light. You can say lots about Pulis but failure to organise a team isnt one. Woodgate obviously based his playing style after reading a book on chaos theory as to this day I could not see what he was trying to do, so I’ll give you that one.

None of these players had stand out stats and have done very well in the championship, this ideal that they must have a glowing record to sign for a second division club is nonsense Unlike them Sanogo has already played in the Championship and was a flop. Ive argued with Lewis and KM this weekend that Bamba and Stewart are not bad signings due to the state we are in, but Sanogo would def be a bad signing. If he is replacing Britt of Fletcher we are massively trading down and I say that as someone not a fan of either, and we would need to spend the money on guaranteed goals. If he is coming as 3rd choice I would rather us attempt to get a loan from a prem club. We might end up with a Nimley or Nmecha or we could end up with a Bamford, there is a risk. With Sanogo though its slightly better than Nmecha guaranteed.
DurhamRed 2,047
I think Yaya Sanogo will make for a good 3rd Striker signing as is relatively cheap just wages. Has potential if Warnock can somehow get the talent out of him. Never realised he was so old thought at 27 still thought he was a youth prospect like 22 ish.

I am not advocating that he comes in and starts every game but getting players in with the sole focus of being a plan b or 3rd choice is pointless, they should all be given equal opportunity and the best balanced side you stick with. Yes, Britt ended the season well and long may that continue but under Woodgate and Pulis we didnt see the best of him at all
Jamie-H 1,322
To me the risk with Sanogo isn't wage/ability/potential/role it's this: https://www.transfermarkt.com/yaya-sanogo/verletzungen/spieler/127194 That's the reason his careers stalled he's spent about 3 years out injured throughout his career with various horrific injuries.
