Hi guys! PAOK fan here from Greece. You are getting a really hard worker in Akpom. He is a top lad and a good professional. When he first came, he was considered a bench player. It was the 2018-19 sea

Morsy nearly done

Williams fee nearly agreed. 1.75million rising to 2.5 (So 1.75 then 😂).

The Gazette must have had it wrong then as well as me?

"But left-back Bola is back from Blackpool and training at Rockliffe and will be available under the rules.

And Berwick Hills raised striker Walker will also be eligible after a successful spell at Crewe.

Midfielder Ben Liddle also meets the criteria to be involved after returning from a loan spell at Scunthorpe after League Two was suspended."

Bola was only eligible if we were unable to name a full team due to injuries.

Okay, like I said before I'm flabbegasted by the number of people who want to keep Johnson on, so I decided to see if there was something in the stats that is getting past the eye test so I took myself off to whoscored. This is not pretty reading.

So across the last 3 years, Marvin has made 66 league appearances (3700 mins) between Boro and Sheff Utd. Of these he's made 18 appearances at left back, so that excuse goes out the window - he has played as a winger for the majority of the time. His attacking stats look like this -

Goals - 2

Assists - 5

Shots per game - 0.7

Key passes (chance created) per game - 0.9

Dribbles per game - 0.9

Passes per game - 19.9

Pass success rate - 65.5%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crosses per game - 0.8

So across his time with us he hasnt managed to maintain an average of 1 per game of any attacking contribution. Added to that, he loses the ball more than a third of the time he tries to pass it. He contributes to a goal approximately once every ten games.

This got me interested in the stats of another left winger that we released last year in downing- with very few arguments against it - just as a reference point. This is from the 17/18 season, due to it being the most comparable in terms of appearances (42 - 3426mins) -

Goals - 3

Assists - 7

Shots per game - 1.9

Key passes (chance created) per game - 1.8

Dribbles per game - 0.6

Passes per game - 36.8

Pass success rate - 83.2%

Crosses per game - 1.7

In conclusion - we happily let downing go (which I also felt was the right decision) with literally double the production rate of Johnson, and we didn't feel it was good enough - yet for some reason people want to see Marvin stay on? I really don't get it.

I still can't get over that successful pass rate.

As far as I'm aware Marvin Johnson isn't a disruptive troublemaker in the dressing room with family ties to Woodgate.

Also Downing was on ridiculous wages.

On the Marv thing, only reason I’d be inclined to give him a year extension is because the squad needs at least 4-5 additions and it’s likely we won’t have a lot of time to get bodies in.

At least he’s a known quantity (albeit not a particularly good quantity).

Agreed, give Marv 1 year as a squad player while focussing resources on the 1st team. No point getting a new winger and a back up then needing to improve on them again when we get promoted next season 😁

For the same reason offer Friend a reduced 1 year and make him 4th CB.

Orrrr  we could get two wingers with the potential to effect a game instead of try to find one that does and have another that we know doesn't.

I completely agree they are alright to play 5 game a year if have a injury crisis but can't be in the strongest first 11.

I feel  we need to revert to the karanka 4231 formation and build a squad for this.  As Tav needs to be a number 10 next season with two class wingers recruited to play either side of him. Then need two new central midfielders, a whole new defense and a new striker. Then if this is done we will finally smash the championship 😁. Just need to sign players who can actually play football 😂

Good luck doing that with this recruitment team.

Well personally I think tav has looked in the best form of his short career out on the left, so maybe that's his best position. So to me we can just bring in one specialist left winger, and have them compete, while also being able to use tavs versatility when the specialist winger in fit/in form.

Coulson is an adequate back up and much preferable to Johnson because we don't know haydens ceiling whereas we do know that Johnson is very low.

But Tav hasn't really played LW, he's been playing as a free floating AM. Against wednesday he was a number 10 instead.

Has anyone any kind of idea as to what our transfer budget might be this summer?

Not much. Lot of clubs are financially *** with COVID thrown in. System been broken for a while and i think we will start to see it. Especially with potentially hardly any income for the club to come apart from player sales

Hopefully they continue to televise games to UK residents. For those who don't want to risk mass gatherings. Surely that would benefit the clubs involved too as it allows access to many more fans.
