We've been trying to / close to getting him back since Jan. IIRC he was almost here but Burnley and Dyche changed the goalposts last minute

I wonder if he is actually on Warnock's list, you would think any manager in this division would love to have a player of Ben Gibson's quality in their squad, but Warnock is his own man and may have other idea's. He may not know much about him.

Hi guys! PAOK fan here from Greece. You are getting a really hard worker in Akpom. He is a top lad and a good professional. When he first came, he was considered a bench player. It was the 2018-19 sea

Morsy nearly done

Williams fee nearly agreed. 1.75million rising to 2.5 (So 1.75 then 😂).

My memory of the second coming of Besic was him running around in circles like a cat chasing its tail, losing possession 20 yards out from his own goal then giving away stupid fouls in dangerous places in reckless retaliation for his own selfish stupidity. I also seem to recall his agent didn't exactly cover themselves in glory with their "Oliver Twist" negotiating tactics. Unless he has changed his agent I would imagine SG would have security escort them from the car park never mind entering the building.

I also remember Besic as a ticking time bomb...
Few glimpses of something good, but he always lost the ball, when he had had about 5 team mates to pass it to. And then those damn free kicks in dangerous areas .. I remember him getting sent off too, totally reckless .. And the opponent scored from the free kick ..

I remember not so long ago us bringing in a "Quality" Keeper on ridiculous wages who had a serious injury and therefore hadn't played for a few seasons so we got him cheap.  Once here he then put in performances well below that which he once did previously albeit by having a rock solid defensive wall in front of him in those days.

To think that we are now supposedly considering a CB who had a serious injury, hasn't played for a few seasons but who looked good playing behind an ultra defensive midfield pairing in front of him in previous days but on wages which would likely equate to three or four decent players at this level seems another unnecessary and questionable gamble.

On a positive at least he wouldn't be the biggest door handle in the club unlike the Goalkeeper in question but it does smack of more of that short sighted Teesside nepotism.

You're remembering wrong. Valdes put on very good, consistent performances. Just because he turned out to be a knob doesn't erase that from history

Also, Gibson hasn't played much for two seasons (I wouldn't consider 2 a few personally), correct- but he was only injured for 89 days of that (according to transfermarket) so I wouldn't be worried about the injury. His fitness won't be where you want it but there will be a pre season to get him on the road to being ready.

Valdes pulled off some decent saves but he was also error prone and made too many howlers and took months to get his sharpness costing us points in the process. He had zero relationship or understanding with his defenders nor them with him. At best he was a egotistical, eccentric circus act that came to Town and left a steaming mound.

We can split hairs over terminology and the use of "few" but the "few seasons" was used in the context for both players and was meaning a similar amount of time without bias that Valdes was out for and Gibsons's solitary game for Burnley. I suspect that had I said "two" or a "couple" instead of a "few" you would have then fixated over the exact number of months or weeks for both.

In the case of Ben Gibson its more than just his fitness that will take time to get up to speed, his reading of the game and timing will also take a while, that is if he is ever anything close to the defender he was before his injury once tested in a competitive environment.

The two players are polar opposites in terms of commitment and loyalty to Boro, that is in no doubt. Right now with finances being tight its a gamble that will either pay handsome dividends or could cripple the club with an expensive non-playing squad member and under the present commercial uncertainty in football generally and Boro in particular to me he potentially represents too many eggs in one basket.

To counter all of your points about Gibson- he's been training with us since warnock has come in to the club. He'll have taken a very close look and if we sign him he will be confident that he can get back up to speed in time for the new campaign. If he doesn't, then we won't sign him. Simple as that with Neil I think.

It's the associated costs that concern me, get one in at the expense of perhaps covering 2 or 3 other positions.

What the goal will be for next season could have some baring

Valdes was quality, we'd have been rock bottom of the Premier League in October if we'd stuck with Dimi.

I don't even want to talk about Brad *** Guzan.

So why bring him up?😁

Think it’s only a matter of time before we are linked with Kenneth Zohore. Out of favour in the championship so now WBA are in the Premier League he certainly won’t be needed.

Lead the line for Warnock in the promotion season and has said he wants a striker like that. Whether it’s a loan or cut-price deal I can see this happening.

Hopefully we don’t put all our eggs in the Ben Gibson basket. Need to sign him quickly or move on you’d think.

Burley will want to recover most of their money. If we get him quickly then I think we’ll be spending a lot of money.

Dimi had possibly peaked by that time but we will never know what he could or couldn't have done in the Premiership but I'd have preferred him to Valdes. When Villa fans called their Keeper "Bad" instead of "Brad" thats a pretty good indication of why Boro shouldn't have signed him.

Valdes was good at coming off his line but he couldn't cope with crosses into the box or corners. My lasting memories of him just off the top of my head were Man Utd fans mocking that he's "one of their own" after his gaffe at the Riverside, Burnley away when he gifted Dyche all three points and another clanger away at Everton.  We were well into Winter with fans hoping that he was going to get better.

He did have a decent game at Swansea the day Gestede missed when scoring was easier so it wasn't all bad just not very good most of the time and especially in those critical opening few months.
