Thats pretty much exactly what I did! 😂

So much better when you can see the players actually care. ❤️

I want Warnock I also want him as manager next season

I’m drunk and I love this. This is the best I’ve felt about boro in ages. And that’s saying something because there’s not a lot of sunshine.

But isn't that why clubs have a coaching staff?

To take players with potential and make them decent, or good players and make them better?

At least, I thought that was the point.

In any case, we've signed plenty of supposedly good players in the past and they've performed like donkeys, due to poor management / coaching / wrong playing style etc.

Maybe we should just hire some decent coaches and turn our current motley crew into league champions? 😉

He's 30 years old, isn't he, or near enough anyway.  He doesn't have potential, he's a limited player who we overpaid for and now people want us to give him another contract to compound that mistake.  I'd say it was ridiculous if I hadn't seen the same thing before on here.

Not to mention signing the wrong championship players and overpaying for them both fee and salary wise

Johnson certainly has limitations. However, as a squad player and not first choice, he is probably as good as we will be able to afford for that type of player, assuming he wants to accept a salary that reflects that. Also, he came as a winger and was then thrust into wing back and I doubt he got much decent coaching in that position.

If Warnock And Blackwell offer him a contract then, I’m happy to go along with that.  It would mean they probably think they could improve his defending over time.

Just editing your post slightly.  Don't you see anything problematic at all with what you wrote?

I think Johnson and Shotton fall into the same category. Can put in the occasional good performance but are mostly mediocre. They are also capable of dropping massive clangers that have cost us many a point in the past.

We will not miss them.

If he'd re-sign on a decent contract we might need him even if it's just for cover. I don't think Warnock likes Coulson at LB & I'm not convinced Bola plays for us again. George Friend is shot as a LB and his playing days have to be at CB moving forward IMO.

That is to say, from what I can tell, we don't currently even have a LB going into next season. If we can bring in someone better and utilise Coulson as cover, that's fine too.

Wish I could resign on a decent contract...but employers generally expect you to work when they pay you. 😜

Are you saying that the bit that was in my original post, that you have left out, is the problem?  That bit was really referring to this seasons signing of Browne, Bola and DijksteeI, but I do know we signed Johnson as a league 1 player and yes, we massively overpaid for him at time, along with all the others.

Doesn't alter fact that he is currently a Boro player and apparently wants to stay - that is only reason why we are even discussing him. Warnock will have had enough games seeing him to judge whether he can improve him - its not quite same as signing him from another club and having to judge whether he will fit in -  and I am happy to go along with what he thinks

I dont think Marv is that bad and wouldnt be suprised if every FM stat was 11. Can play LM and looked ok at RW cutting in so it depends on cost and opportunity cost. Dont think signing him or not will define our season and we have bigger issues than him at the moment

    • It’s clear Wilder plans on a long term stay at Boro. He has a “free hit” this season, as expectations are not sky high. We have limited money available and moving players on may not be easy as supposedly we pay more that a lot of clubs (maybe to get players to the north-east?). All of the above suggests to me, he will only sign players in January who are exactly what he wants and that if he can’t find them he will be prepared to wait until the summer rather than settle for something second best. That being the case we might not see as much movement as is hoped. The departures might be limited to those who definitely can’t  fit into the style and those with longer term contracts where we might as well take the hit now as later, but in each case only where we can find the right replacement and we get the right saving (either in transfer fee or in cutting wage bill). Incomings might be one or two permanents, plus loans from Premier League where we have no long term commitment or huge cost In terms of possible departures, Hall fits into the first category and if we can’t find an experienced replacement, Wilder might be planning to use Wood to give him experience and see if he can step up. Uche fits into both categories and if we can get some of our money back, I think he will be on the road. With Hernandez and JLS, it depends on whether there are any recall clauses allowing us to end the loan in January. I would doubt it - and both can do as squad members until end of season, so I am a bit doubtful they will be on the way. Stoj ends his contract at the end of the season and he may be able to find another club to take on his wages. If he does, then maybe one of Hemmings or Brynn will be recalled as third keeper. In terms of quality I think they would be fine, although in many ways they would be better getting first team experience where they are. Although I am not a fan of either Daniels or Lumley, again I think our wage commitment to them may prevent either leaving - unless we can and want to loan an equivalent of Dean Henderson ( as he was when SU loaned him). If Wilder can get his ball playing centre half, then Dijksteel can cover RWB and I would leave Spence to get the experience at Forest. yes, it helps them, but it may be beneficial in long term either in his development and attitude or in raising his value. So for me, OUT - Hall, Uche, Stoj and Browne and Coburn on loan. IN - good centre half and a couple of forwards, maybe one on loan. Also either Taylor or another left back for the rest of the season. Any other incomings only where we get a bargain or cut out other clubs ( e.g. where a player will be out of contract in summer and we would end up in a bidding war)
    • Hartlepool or Sheff Utd in the cup. Or just for kicks and giggles Derby.
    • Looking at Sheff Utd most of the keepers he brought in were around 22. I wouldn’t be surprised with a loan move for a Liverpool or Man City keeper.
