Erimus74 2,978
Boro flashback - This day the 29th January 1977 Boro 4 Hereford United 0 Since the 18th January 1972, when the mighty Boro beat Man City in the 3rd round of the FAC, the visit of Hereford United to Ayresome Park was to be my 11th home & away Boro FAC match Hereford were welcomed to Ayresome Park, without the famous Ricky George & George Radford, both who will forever go down in FAC history for their 2 goals which brought hundreds of onrushing parkers on to the pitch when, as a non league team, knocking 1st division Newcastle out of the FAC Now Hereford, who in 5 seasons since joining the football league are in the 2nd division, came to the Boro hoping for the fairytale to continue But............... It was never going to be the case, I can still remember from my position dead centre of the holgate as Graeme Souness measured up to smash a thirty yarder in to the east end goal, I started to shout, don't shoot from there, gooooooaaaaaaalllllll And from then it was Davey Armstrong with a couple, including a penalty & Alan Willey with his1st FAC goal, the Boro cruised to the 5th round Hereford finished bottom of the 2nd division that season Big Jacks inaugural FAC Boro home match Pat Cuff John Craggs Terry Cooper Graeme Souness Stuey Boam Willie Maddren Tony McAndrew David Mills Peter Brine Alf Wood Davey Armstrong Sub - Alan Willey replacing Alf Wood
Erimus74 2,978
Boro flashback - This day 1986 Was to be the late, great Willie Maddrensi final match in charge of our great football club 1st February seen the mighty Boro lose 3-1 at home to Charlton, with Gary Rowell scoring our consolation goal from the penalty spot for his 10th goal of the season Boro were without a win in the calander year while, not only collecting one point out of a possible 12 in January & knocked out of the FAC but have started February in the same run of form IMHO, Willie never stood a chance from the beginning, the club was in a rut, we were in the lowest ebb of our entire history & it had to get worse before it improved, which was the case He was an unlucky manager, probably & most likely, again IMHO, the right manager at the wrong time, the players WM brought in, who not only played a major part in the clubs fantastic era over the next few seasons that were to follow & when some were eventually sold brought a massive injection of cash in to the Boro's coffers, probably his most importing signing was bringing Bruce Rioch to our football club, but unfortunately Willie was to pay a price for the failure of the running of the club who thought it best to sell the clubs jewels in 1980's & replace with lesser quality players to end up at our present predicament Ironically, future Boro manager Lennie Lawrences Charlton brought Willie's time to a final conclusion & up stepped sir Bruce to take over the helm & take us to one of the most exciting periods in our history & whoever was lucky enough to play & support the Boro through an era will never forget, or want to Willie's final team selection v Charlton Stephen Pears Brian Laws Tony McAndrew Tony Mowbray Don O'Riordon Gary Pallister Gary Hamilton Pat Heard Bernie Slaven Archie Stephens Gary Rowell Sub Peter Beagrie, who replaced Gary Pallister in the 2nd half Edited February 1, 2020 by Erimus74

Erimus74 2,978
Boro flashback - This day 7th February 1987 Boro 1 Bristol Rovers 0 Paul Kerr, our 1st cash signing after liquidation which was £50k, made his league home debut this afternoon wearing the No9 shirt & his 3rd game for the mighty Boro, which included an FAC debut in our home defeat to Preston, a 3-0 win at Bury the week previous & this day If it was a good day for Paul Kerr it wasn't for Brian Laws, as the game was goalless Boro were awarded a penalty at the holgate end, Lawsy took the spot kick & put the ball wide of the goal & at that moment went down clutching his knee, after medical attention in the Bristol goalmouth Brian Laws was taken from the field & replaced with sub Alan Kernaghan, Lawsy was to play no part in the remainder of the 3rd division campaigne The Boro were finding it hard to break down Rovers stubborn defence until Colin Cooper chased a lost cause & put the ball across for Stuart Ripley to score the only goal of the game & 3 points in the bag & 3 wins on the bounce Bruce's team Stephen Pears Brian Laws Colin Cooper Tony Mowbray Gary Parkinson Gary Pallister Bernie Slaven Archie Stephens Paul Kerr Gary Gill Stuart Ripley Sub Alan Kernaghan
