I know you kind of expect them too but it's nice to hear both Saville and Warnock come out and talk about how there was a clear foul in the build up to the goal.

Are they talking about Saville being blocked during the corner?

Yes

What's the actual ruling on "obstructions"? I know that they changed to something more broad like "impeding an opposition player".

To me it looked like Vaulks (?) didn't move from where he was or make an action to deliberately obstruct Saville (grabbing him etc). But he definitely knew what he was doing if you catch my drift?

Personally from what I saw live and from the highlights it didn't look like a foul to me (unless the rules are clear?).

Edit: Just been looking back at the corner on a loop for tha last few minutes, it does look like Vaulks appears to shadow Saville and slightly blocks his path and leans into him. The more I watch it, the more it looks like he impedes Saville.

Paid for the matchpass on a weekend away in Newcastle, got to the 35th minute and then we got taken down to a cellar without Wi-Fi or signal in the next bar.

Gutted that I missed our goal and 2/3rds of the match, they were literally shaping up to take the corner as my stream froze.

Would have taken a point before kick-off though.

Oh, so while we're thinking he uses that iPad to show tactics boards to the players, he's actually browsing Oneboro?

Why not? There's a font of knowledge on here

Kieffer Moore specifically drags Vaulks in to the position to block off Saville before the kick is taken.

It was entirely deliberate.

Cardiff have a brilliant squad for the Championship with threats from all areas so we done really well to get a draw with them. They have far better individual quality than us. However, as a team we shown we can be a match for them. In recent years we wouldn’t have been able to cope with such a direct and physical team so that’s a clear sign of progression.

I’m imagining Warnock was looking enviously at Cardiff’s team wishing he had the individual quality such as several proper wingers such as Murphy, Ojo & Hoillet, a set piece and long shot specialist in Wilson, a proper old fashioned target man in Moore and a long throw specialist in Vaulks.

I think in an ideal world, Warnock will build our squad to have them extra threats that Cardiff possess which we currently lack, so I see them as a pretty good template of what direction we’ll being aiming for.

I said this last week. I think they got one of best squads in league, if not the best. Forest and Norwich are the other two who fall in that category.

A week is a long time in the life of a football fan. From the despondency on here this time last week after Reading to the new found optimism maybe even tempered with a little disappointment that we only drew away to Cardiff yesterday.

Interesting to note that Reading are still top, have still only conceded one solitary goal (coincidentally against Cardiff) all season (although Jonny Howson may take a different view) and the only side to have taken points off them is still Boro.

10 points from 7 games generally would be ok. Throw into the mix that we have already played all of the current top 4 and it looks very good indeed.

Looked to me like Vaulks stopped Saville,...Giving Ojo a free run on goal but hey ho we have 5 points from 3 games I couldn't see us getting any at all

I remember when we had a 'brilliant squad', it didn't quite play like it though.  On paper means nothing, they don't look like a brilliant side at the moment so I don't believe we did do really well to get a draw with them.  It was a lousy game of football with a deserved result overall.  I sincerely hope that isn't the template for what direction we are aiming for.

The only decent side they've played is Watford really, where they got a good three points to be fair to them.  They've played Wycombe, Rotherham, Derby, Barnsley, us and Cardiff.  How many points would we be aiming for from that lot?  Say at least 13 points from the other 6 games, so as not to include ourselves, as opposed to 19 from the 7?  Their win at Cardiff would look more impressive if I hadn't just seen where Cardiff are at the moment, and they look a lot like us to be honest - reasonably well organised but with next to no attacking threat.  We can be right in the mix if we can win more games so the next two in particular are big in that regard.  Two wins required to turn this start into a good one.
