Boro v Nottingham Forest 1-0 (Johnson)

Recommended Posts

Its no surprise that we're doing so well, Warnock knows this league like the back of his hand, plus its all about good man management skills and Warnock has had that at every club his managed, he instils that confidence and self belief in his players.

We definitely got the free kick, even though he booked Morsy.

Yeah, but that was afterwards if you see what I mean?  Initially the ref was playing on, then Forest player was hassling Morsy and then he threw the arm.  The ref stopped play, booked Morsy for the three things he'd done and then gave us the freekick as our advantage hadn't gone anywhere.  I think that's how it happened.

When has he been booked for talking though? He was booked for an elbow yesterday I thought?

But he had been gobbing off at the ref from minute 1, complaining about every decision. I think that has to influence refs when they're 50/50 about getting the yellow out.

Of course he does but as already mentioned fair play to theManager for spotting it and reminding Morsy that he is a team player and not an individual to settle a score.

You can bet Woody would have kept him on!

What is more pleasing for me is that confidence in home form has returned and I personaly no longer am concerned about home games.

Ask a question though are we doing better than anticipated through lack of fans in the ground? (apart from the obvious)

Hell of a question, I think theirs 4 key elements to why we are doing well tbh and they are as follows ..........

1 Competent tactics, coaching/man management 100% better than last season.

2 Wiser recruitment this summer cant say I am disappointed with any of the signings considering what we paid for them so far.

3 Players attitudes have improved greatly everyone looks like they want to put their neck on the line and win games.

4 No fans to put pressure further on when things aren't going so well in games, however flip side of that is if we get playoffs come the end of the season or need to get across the line to get playoffs in the last few games of the season the crowd can be a massive force (think of promotion season under karanka) when they get behind the team so may actually have the opposite effect come the end of the season.

I'm not saying he got booked for talking. I'm saying he's capable of walking into the book when it's not remotely necessary for him to get into that situation. He did get booked for the elbow but as has been said, it was totally unnecessary. Not only is elbowing an opponent a completely dumb thing to do in general, it's even stupider when you've already won the free kick.

    • Tav's injury has probably heightened the need for some creative flair needing to be added to the squad. Am I the only one that is wondering if it's the boots that Tav is wearing that is causing him to slip? The Ground staff didn't have a normal summer to reseed or relay the pitch or whatever they normally do but lets face it the Riverside pitch is still light years ahead of many if not most at this level. I didn't see Spurs or Man City players slipping any more than their lesser opponents in the cup. Come to think of it I didn't notice Blackburn players slipping much either. He seems to be wearing these laceless Mutator Predator boots (happy to be corrected) if my eyesight is not deceiving me. Are they also the same boots that Marcus Browne was wearing? If so that is two players down due to footwear as much as the state of the pitch. About time NW issued them with good old fashioned brown boots as I used to call them with real "men's" studs! Meanwhile we are now scouring for loans and additional wages that the Club can ill afford.
    • The new work permit rules will make it harder to sign European players but it will now be easier to sign players from outside the EU.
    • That's really sad. I think for the forseeable future we can't really buy top-level proven championship players. So we have to rely on international and young unproven players. I was a little bit worried last season when our new signing like Bola, Dijkstell and Browne did not deliever. I'm much more positive about the future this season, I think we have a solid squad now. If we do some smart transfers next season can be great.
    • Coulson has been well and truly frozen out since he gave that penalty away and I have a feeling Spence will be getting the stick after not tracking his man for the Blackburn goal.
    • Yep. He locked on to targets or made decisions and then stuck with them a few times. The earlier drive where he threw it 3 straight times to Adams. Never even looked at another route and on the third down (where Adams comes down OOB) Lazard is wide open on a shallow cross with no one even in the vicinity to walk it in. Also the free play he had on the offsides where he threw it up to Daphney, I know he was getting pressured but over the other side of the field is Adams in an ocean of space with a free run to the end zone and Rodgers doesn't see it. Bit salty but if Allen missed a wide open TD opportunity like that he'd get slated for weeks.  Not accustomed to seeing Rodgers miss stuff like that.
