Promotion did not nearly finish this club. Stupid reckless spending after relegation nearly finished this club.

Well if Gibson doesn't want us promoted because we might be relegated and he might make stupid decisions then we may as well pack up as a club.

I don't get the whole argument that Gibson wants to keep us in the Championship because it's more profitable or safe, virtually every Championship club is haemorrhaging money and the only foreseeable way of getting out of that is the Premier League. I don't see trying to live within our means as a lack of ambition personally.

Of course he wants us to get promoted. It’s ridiculous to think otherwise. But he’s going about it in a different way than he did three years ago and rightly so.

@Downsouthcan you change the goalscorers in the thread title? Bit weird to see it credited to Tav when it was a blatant own goal!

Done 🙂

That's a ludicrous statement given the financial problems we have.

I don't think promotion nearly finished us. There's plenty of other candidates queuing up to take the blame for our current financial woes - our supine and flaccid relegation at the hands of Steve Agnew, followed by that diabolical summer when we gave Monk our children's inheritance and he chose to play Adam Clayton as a CB. Honorary mentions also to Tony Pulis for stuffing our play-off against Villa so pathetically, and to Jonathan Woodgate for doing his best to take us into League One, which quite possibly would have finished us off.

The last four years have been toss on toast, with an extra-large dollop of toss, and not much toast. I don't think beating Brighton that innocent, blissful May afternoon should shoulder much of the blame for what came next.

Gibson not supporting Karanka in January and blithely accepting relegation is what nearly finished us off.

With the signings Karanka so clearly wanted we could have possibly stayed up.

Gibson did support Karanka.

He might not have got his first choice targets but that's not usual and not the fault of Gibson. We should've moved Karanka on after he disappeared and gave it to some one capable of building the club at the highest level.

I'd rather us compete at the highest possible level against the best. What's the point of competing otherwise?

For £150,000,000 in Premier League money and parachute payments, any day.

    • Every football manager players eyes light up as they furiously scout South American regens.
    • Tav's injury has probably heightened the need for some creative flair needing to be added to the squad. Am I the only one that is wondering if it's the boots that Tav is wearing that is causing him to slip? The Ground staff didn't have a normal summer to reseed or relay the pitch or whatever they normally do but lets face it the Riverside pitch is still light years ahead of many if not most at this level. I didn't see Spurs or Man City players slipping any more than their lesser opponents in the cup. Come to think of it I didn't notice Blackburn players slipping much either. He seems to be wearing these laceless Mutator Predator boots (happy to be corrected) if my eyesight is not deceiving me. Are they also the same boots that Marcus Browne was wearing? If so that is two players down due to footwear as much as the state of the pitch. About time NW issued them with good old fashioned brown boots as I used to call them with real "men's" studs! Meanwhile we are now scouring for loans and additional wages that the Club can ill afford.
    • The new work permit rules will make it harder to sign European players but it will now be easier to sign players from outside the EU.
    • That's really sad. I think for the forseeable future we can't really buy top-level proven championship players. So we have to rely on international and young unproven players. I was a little bit worried last season when our new signing like Bola, Dijkstell and Browne did not deliever. I'm much more positive about the future this season, I think we have a solid squad now. If we do some smart transfers next season can be great.
    • Coulson has been well and truly frozen out since he gave that penalty away and I have a feeling Spence will be getting the stick after not tracking his man for the Blackburn goal.
