"The short-term deal is appealing because there is no loan fee, with clubs only required to pay his wages"

That'll rule them out then

Can’t believe that people on here are condemning a possible signing because of rumours that he dealt drugs.    One thing or squad is crying out for is someone that can distribute well 😳

Fletcher is close to signing a new contract.

If him and Charlie Wyke help Sunderland get promoted l'll be gutted.

Why? They are both League 1 standard players playing in League 1.

Why would he move from one mid table club where he's first choice to another midtable club where he's a back up? He's coming in as first choice right back I reckon, I think Warnock will go back to a back 3 as soon as he can.

I do agree but equally he's not been offered a deal there yet

Best FB ... Mad Dog!

Worst FB Barragan or Hoyte

Pogatetz was awful at LB, Quedrue was miles better, he was a backwards step.

worst for me is Hoyte had the ability but just didn’t want the ball and hid.

luke Young best for me, he was brilliant.

I have a real soft spot for Mad Dog. I remember watching Austria in Euro 2008, and him at one point getting this manic look in his eyes and then picking up and full-on biting the ball. Completely mental. Loved him.

French Frank was the better player, of course, but the question was about your favourite, not who was the best. Pog for me too.

Probably Barragan as my least favourite.

Both from Teesside helping Sunderland.

Well, we have had a couple of players from Sunderland over the years...not necessarily played for the Mackems, but came from the area.

Don't think we've had any Geordies though...apart from Gazza.

In my opinion we never really replaced him, selling him was a huge mistake.

Worst fullback for me is either Justin Hoyte or Antonio Barragan, I'd say Dwight Tiendalli but he was a loan and only played two games for us.

He's not been as good this season as the last couple of years but I thought he would have been ideal for us. If we're going to persist with direct play, we should be looking to bring in someone in who can challenge physically and aerially up front because Britt and Akpom just aren't cut out for that, it's not their game.
