nunthorpered 1,920
As if Chuba has been told he can leave. Actually think this may have been one of the weirdest transfers at the club considering we shelled out nearly £3m for him and hes been here less than a year and on a three year deal. NML been offered a contract but he's looking elsewhere 1
Rishworthian 166
Humpty I used to have an office next to the local Paper and the journos used to drop in most lunch times. filling the football column inches in the close season is a problem for them. You will therefore, undoubtedly, be correct. They tried also to be on the front foot and have half written obituary's on prominent local personalities. It wasn't the Gazette by the way
Rishworthian 166
Just in case it is not clear there was a pub between my office and theirs and it was the pub we all went to Now there's a surprise journalist in a pub !
Weasel 965
Pretty annoyed at the Akpom news, don't think he's as bad as we make him look. As someone linked earlier, our strikers get absolutely zero service so to solely blame them is ridiculous. Both Britt and Akpom were bottom 4 for touches in pen area and received passes per 90. Seems like we're just scapegoating our strikers despite not creating any chances due to our negative football.

Warnock is going to sign 2-3 strikers this year, and they will be in the exact same positions on that graph at Akpom and Britt. I honestly think he's gone by Christmas. The way we "play" football just won't fly. A 3-0 home defeat to relegation fodder and the stadium will turn toxic.

We must be one of the most consistently poor attacking teams over the past decade in the entire football league. Even in our two good seasons under Karanka we scored vastly less than the other top sides.

I mentioned this on Twitter in response to the Gazette story about how we win more games when we have less possession. They also said our cross success is related to our lack of a presence in the box. But we also have the most crosses in the division with over 1000, nobody else has put in over 1000 crosses this season. Which begs the question, why are we blaming our lack of presence in the box for our failure when, I dunno, maybe we shouldn't be trying to play in a way that clearly relies on that? If you look at Britt's goal-scoring stats per season, this is by some margin his worst season. In his seasons as a permanent member of a Championship squad, he has consistently scored 14-16 goals. The only outliers are the season he was out injured for all but 4 games with Forest and our last 2 seasons under Woodgate and Warnock, even last season he managed 11 overall. Criticise Britt all you want for his misses, we all know he's not a £15m striker. But he has been a consistent goal-scorer at this level until this season. Warnock says he's had no striker this season. The stats say he's had at least one striker fit for most the season who he has failed to utilise. Even bloody Pulis got significantly more out of him.

I mean, he's definitely had some good seasons for Cardiff, he's looked nothing like that player here. Don't give a toss about the full pre-season thing in his regard, Bolasie came here with as many opportunities as NML had had this season and also was clearly not fit at the start. NML never looked match fit throughout and Bolasie was in good shape for the last 10 games or so.
Smogzilla 7,386
Maybe Neil watched Man City dump PSG out of the champions league without bothering to play a striker and thought we could do the same.

Another weird stat from WhoScored: in terms of 'action zones,' we spend the highest % of time in the opposition third in the whole league. Combined with your stat and the one about touches in the box, that suggests we spend an awful lot of time lumping aimless crosses into the box to opposition defenders.
