Under a certain age don't you have to still pay compensation? Maybe that's what we can't agree on?

The rules around free transfers state that clubs will be due compensation for any player aged 24 or under who is offered equivalent or improved terms, but chooses to turn them down to move elsewhere.

Yeah so that's deffo what's happening here then, guess we can't agree with Sunderland on compensation, but know if it goes to tribunal it'll probably be nearer Sunderlands figure.

That was Dave Beasant when he was at Chelsea. He knocked a bottle of salad cream off a shelf and decided to kick it back up in the air as he hadn’t been able to catch it. The problem was, he wasn’t wearing anything on his feet.

I did something similar stupid once ..

During a dart game my third dart, for checking out 164, bounced off the red bull and looped back at me .. In pure disbelief I kicked the dart really hard ..  It went full on through my nikes and into my foot ..  Damn I can still hear the laughter and feel the pain ... jumping around with a dart through the middle of the foot.

Good to see you back, mate!

I'll be seriously disappointed if we're trying to buy a new left back whilst only loaning Coulson out. If it's a makeweight for a player we think is better, less so, but I still really rate Coulson as a future prospect and I seriously doubt Hume is that much better.

Feels like such a bloody waste because the manager we have in charge right now is worse for him than the inexperienced rubbish one we had in before him. If we had a Jokanovic or a Nuno in charge, I think they'd have absolutely loved having Coulson to work with. I don't think they'd go out of their way to buy him at a Championship club but knowing he was there, to bring in when required.

He's not the finished article by any means, he's raw and has things to work on. But he needs to play to find his place and it's just frustrating we're seemingly willing to buy someone instead of giving him the chance to come back after a full season elsewhere. I just can't see how Coulson comes back next year with 2 permanent members ahead of him and has a chance of making his mark. It feels like we're gearing up as best we can to sell him.

He can’t defend. He didn’t look much above the level of Bishop Auckland yesterday apart from his pace he was very poor. I think a full season of regular football under his belt at a promotion chasing League One team would be good.

Based on last season, he's not going to get past Bola. So the options are

Sell him now - we get peanuts

Keep him in the squad and he doesn't get a game, and his contract is running, so sell him next season. - we get less peanuts

Send him on loan and he doesn't perform - we get the same as above

Send him on loan and he does well - we get a better player or more peanuts

I think it would be too but it's no good for us whether he gets 5 games or 50 if he's already got no chance of earning his place when he comes back, which is exactly what I see happening unless we replace him with a loan. We'd have 3 permanent left backs at least, which means one either gets sold, stuck doing nowt or forced to play out of position for a chance.

Coulson had that problem just last season because Bola was pretty much an ever present, add another left back onto the club's payroll for the next couple of years and we might as well just sell Coulson and be done with it.

In my own mind, it reminds me of the Britt and Bamford situation. We had one extremely promising striker on our books, we spent money on another and eventually made it impossible to keep both. Bamford got back to his best towards the end of that first season back in the Championship whilst Britt had gone off the boil at the start of Pulis' reign. We sold the only player we legitimately could.

If Coulson has a great season in League One and Hume is rubbish when he plays for us, we will still probably have to sell Coulson as no bugger will buy Hume off us to make up whatever fee we buy him for.

As per the above mate, my problem isn't loaning him out. It's loaning him out and buying a replacement.

I think Payero is to replace Saville and I have a feeling that Wing won’t be in his plans so maybe that’s why we’re after another …

Any evidence of that or just fancilful thoughts

Not too important but just in case it makes your life easier in future, with the plus sign next to the quote button it lets you quote multiple posts, so you don't have to post 3 in a row if you'd rather try and save time 🙂

no big deal but thought it worth mentioning 🙂
