I’m pretty sure he won’t have played much hoofball in his fledgling career and its a lot to take in 😁😁. Seriously tho, he will pretty much miss all of pre season, which isn’t exactly ideal. Plus, he will probs be off on holiday after the tournament or at least need a bit of time to rest a bit. Possibly go home for a week or two whilst everything is finalised. He might not even arrive till the season is up and running, so I would be very surprised if he lined up for our first proper game of the season. Plus, he’s gonna be coming to a completely new country under what are strange times right now, with COVID and everything, which could make it more difficult to settle. A lot of players from abroad, particularly young players, can take time to settle in, get to know their team mates and pick up the rhythm and pace of English football. Sometimes a season or more, if ever. Ive no doubt he’s as fit as a butchers dog, so it wasn’t his actual fitness I was thinking of when making the comment. Plus, whoever he is playing with (or watching from the bench) at the moment, It’s not the boro players. He can be playing alongside Messi but that’s not gonna help him integrate into the Boro squad. So, if we take away the sarcasm and the upside down head, you were actually correct, he is bound to behind 😁 Exactly. The lad's gonna be flying halfway round the world to play here and will have to adapt to a very different culture and way of playing. He's also not gonna have much time to do it, if he's going to be playing in the Olympics. As has been said he's going to be playing catch-up to the rest of the squad. Thats an awful lot for a young player to deal with. I think we can expect him to struggle at first, but hopefully if he's anything like as good as the hype surrounding him, he could be a great signing.

Promising that Brentford seem to be keen on him, if our interest in him is genuine. We definitely seem to be getting linked to a different set of players this summer compared to previous. Even if it is just ‘links’.

I was responding to someone questioning why a player might need time to adapt from a South American League to a completely different style of football in the English league. It was a factual statement, not a negative.

It does feel like there are two recruitment systems running alongside each other

It does feel like there are two recruitment systems running alongside each other I think Warnock is open to, and perhaps realises that overseas is the way to go to find gems and probably the only way to find quality players for the budget we have. At the same, he doesn’t want to fill his squad with players who have never played in or lived in this country (which is understandable and sensible imo), so he also wants to have some ‘seasoned’ championship players in the dressing room. Brunners 7,952
The way Warnock talks about Payero in the latest Gazette article does seem to suggest that Payero may have been a SG pushing: Quote "Steve, for all we haven’t got a lot of money, he always wants to gamble with the Argentinians and the Brazilians. "He (Payero) is young, a good age, is going to the Olympics so it may not be a bad gamble."
RiseAgainst 3,781
Steve Gibson always wants to gamble on Brazilians? He's kept that quiet over the last decade!
DurhamRed 2,045
That article is alluding to we are really trying for Muniz. But I'm glad we are going for South American talent as to be honest the club has only ever achieved success when it's had South American flair

He's kept that quiet over the last decade! Apparently it worked wonders for his missus... 😁 To be serious though, you can see why, as we've had a few good South Americans over the last 20-odd years. I don't blame him either. They like to play the game properly and for the best players its more than just a job or a sport...its like its a form of personal expression. Dan_Boro_Till_I_Die 1,179
Regarding South America in the Northern Echo article it stated this. "They've have recently been linked with a move for Flamengo striker Rodrigo Muniz with a deal some way of completion. However, it's now understood that Boro are monitoring three more players in South America with the potential to explore the market further following a deal being struck for Payero. The unnamed trio may well include 20-year-old Rodrigo Muniz but it's understood they are all being looked at by the club. "
LinoJo3 3,098
Maybe it will be a good thing to have warnock around and keep gibson a bit grounded when it comes to buying these players. let’s be honest they have a high failure rate over here and Juninho was definately the exception rather than the norm. I’d rather get 2 or 3 well researched players in than go mental and end up with half a team of players that can’t function over here.
