I had a quick look and found something about Christian Eriksen, who also had interest from Man United when he signed for Inter. Inter could have agreed a precontract agreement with Eriksen but it would have meant Spurs getting nowt so they negotiated a deal to transfer him then and there. With United, they couldn't speak to him so they didn't have a foot to stand on if Eriksen decided United was where he wanted to be. The FA limits the precontract agreement domestically from 6 months down to 1 month, essentially to avoid any official conflict of interest in case a player could play against a team they're about to sign for. Given the odd status of his expiry date (if that is actually true? I can see it on Transfermarkt too but it's really hard to find anything officially confirming it given he originally joined as an U23 from Wealdstone) that could however mean that we could negotiate a pre-contract agreement with him in January. I imagine they also have transfer fees pinned to the office dart board and chuck some arrows to see what we'll offer.
