Righto Karanka wasn't happy with that window because he didn't get the players he wanted and it ended up with the bottom of the list and lots of strange quotes blaming everyone but himself Well yeah, unless you think less than impressed means he's delighted with them. What do you think it means when a manager says that the squad hasn't been improved after making signings? Genuine question, because you clearly feel it means something different than what I think it means?
macapes 1,886
Downing: “To be honest I should have left after the first season because he (Karanka) didn't want me there." This is turning into a classic transfer thread.
SzilardNemethsCurtains 2,844
4 minutes ago, Changing Times said: The club signed Rudy Gestede from second-tier Aston Villa and Patrick Bamford from Chelsea this month, but neither forward has played much this season. "We need to improve the team, and the club knew a month and a half ago the players that I wanted," the Spaniard told British media. "I always said the aim in the transfer window was to improve the squad. At the moment, we haven't done that. We will be disappointed if nobody else comes in, but I have tried my best. DOWNING ON… Signing for Karanka “As soon as I walked through the door, it didn’t feel right. I just didn’t feel welcome. “I remember going on that first Marbella pre-season trip and saying to my Dad ‘It’s not right but I have already signed.’ “He said: ‘It’s too late. Five years!’ I had to get my head down. “I don’t know if it was a problem me being around. The manager has obviously given the go-ahead to sign me but the chairman obviously wanted me to come back. And there it is quotes that don't even suggest they were bought without his go ahead, one from Downing literally says he did and the first one is about not getting his first choices in other positions particularly the wings which he clearly said after Bamford signed. "I am really pleased Patrick Bamford is back. He's a player I like a lot and he has played his best football with us," he said. "The most important thing is to recover Patrick's confidence. It will be difficult for him, but I trust him. He can be as important for us as he was two years ago. "Patrick can play any attacking position. His best characteristic is that he is always thinking forward, which we need right now. "I said always the main position I want to strengthen is the wings as the only quick player we have is Adama [Traore]," he said. "I want to bring another but we have two weeks. The club is working well behind the scenes and knows the players I like and would want to bring in." We then didn't get either Jese or Bojan and he threw his toys out of the pram Awful recruitment yes, just buying players without the manager knowing not so much
Changing Times 12,213
Yes, and then at the end of the window, when he realised that the only players we had signed were the ones that other people wanted, he was *** off. He made it absolutely clear that the players he wanted weren't signed, and that the squad hadn't improved at all.

If you are looking for a quote where a manager says I didn't want him then you'll probably looking for a while as managers aren't likely to come out and say it as bluntly as that. What they will do is make it clear that the transfer was someone else's idea. But I'm sure if you look you'll find quotes that suggest that Karanka was less than impressed when we signed Gestede and Bamford in that transfer window. I think I've put a few of them up here in the past. It's mad how some people are completely unable or unwilling to read between the lines when it suits them. It's mad how you will only read between the lines when there was clearly more quotes that set the actual scene

At a lot of clubs the manager just tells them what positions he needs filling etc and they buy the players. with gestede, guedioura, downing etc this is likely what happened. He will have knew they were coming and gave the go ahead because we needed players.
LBP 3,012
Won't be long before we bring Ben Gibbo back, regardless of who's manager and whether it's beneficial to the team or not

But I am not missing the point, this whole argument is specifically about players being bought by Gibson or without the manager knowing Now it's he knew but wasn't happy, the goalposts have changed There is no argument that our recruitment was awful

You're taking one set of quotes as being the entire story, then ignoring others that clearly aren't the same. I read both, I just understand why Karanka would give some of those quotes, when he is talking about his boss, the fella that pays his wages etc. People don't tend to directly criticise people who employ them. He made it clear at the end of the window that he wasn't happy. By the sounds of it, he made it obvious to Downing within a few days of him arriving that he didn't want him. Yes, he's really happy with these signings they are great, then a couple of weeks later we haven't improved the squad and he's not happy. It's pretty obvious what went on. Of course he knew. Knowing and wanting are two different things. I'd be surprised if a player ever just showed up without a manager knowing they were coming!
Weasel 965
I agree with what everyone is saying about Gibson getting in the way, however.... I'd just really really like some South Americans here so I'm okay with it this time 🥺👉👈

Let's just agree to disagree and not take up any more of this thread up, you're clearly very set on your view and I just don't agree It's pretty obvious he was unhappy with not getting his main targets and he was unhappy generally struggling with a fractured dressing room and a losing side, which his management exploits since have only backed up
