The signings so far have screamed mid table championship club because that is where we are now.

I will be surprised if we can get a team that is functioning and gelling and will gladly eat my words if we do. But, we are signing players who are underwhelming because that’s where we are now, an underwhelming club.

We are worse off right now than last season imo. Hopefully some key signings will change that

At this point before last season, we had signed Grant Hall, whilst losing Friend, Ayala, Shotton, Gestede, Morrison, Pears and Clayton plus the loanees.

We didn't make a second signing until the day before the opening game.

This time we've lost Johnson, Fletcher, Assombalonga, Mendez-Laing, Archer, Saville, Wing and the loanees, but have already brought in 5 replacements with more on the way, the season doesn't start for another 11 days and the transfer window doesn't shut for well over a month.

We're in a much more stable place than the start of last season financially too.

Does the window not shut half way through August now?

11pm on Tuesday the 31st of August.

They reverted back to the old way because the Premier League clubs complained that it put them at a disadvantage compared to the other big leagues.

We are such a depressing fan base, we should add a signature to each post with the contact details for Samaritans

I get we have had a poor few years but isn't football meant to be a distraction to the ills of the world

Samaritans put the phone down when you identify yourself as a Boro fan!

What is the current situation regarding the "flair" South American signings we are all hoping to arrive at MFC.

To be honest I always think that if we have not captured the player within the first fortnight of declaring an interest then it never seems to happen.

The two lads already mentioned might just might come to Middlesbrough on holiday

Muniz is probably going to fulham it seems. Probably be more news tonight. Payero deal has small financial complications according to Warnock, should be sorted though. The other South American signings no one even knows the names of. Lazaro has been mentioned, but only by an itk not any media reports iirc

To be fair, in the last few years on here, a fair few people have fallen out of love with it, especially those who spend a lot of money to watch it every other week and have had to put up with Pulis, Woodgate and Warnock. It's more like a bad addiction than a distraction at times.

The saga continues.... We have gone in with improved offer hoping that Flamengo pull out of negotiations with Fulham!

Fulham offering player around 25-30k a week where ours is believed to be just under 20k.

Fulham will just match whatever we throw at them, like earlier

For an untested 20 year old with very little first team experience, that seems like a very dangerous gamble for us.

    • Probably setting myself up for some disagreement but I have been surprised that the twin transfer policy approach seems to have worked to a greater extent than I thought, Sporar and Payero are both bedding in nicely and seem to be able to work well with Crooks and Uche whilst Bamba and Peltier have earned their corn. If Lea-Siliki comes good and they ever get to the bottom of Ameobi's problem, then I would say that the window could be called successful when compared to others of late. Lumley has his moments but is a massive upgrade on Bettinelli and IF the loan lads come back as more experience and rounded players, I would say progress has been made, even it only means they have impressed elsewhere enough to get decent fees if we can't hang on to them. Coburn and Jones seem to be being integrated into the squad and although others are knocking at the door, it is up to them to break it down by impressing Scott enough to fast track them as he will be the one with the power to decide their future. Hopefully we can keep up the run next week and Gorgeous George takes a day off (for a change) as Clayton seems to have been shown the cold shoulder and shouldn't come back to haunt us in the same way. With any luck might have a couple back after that have to say in closing that although we should have won the last three games, it is really good that we have begun to win games against teams we should win games against, instead of being "Typical Boro"
    • Play-off spots looking interesting now. Not getting carried away, but with player to return from injury we should be able to hang thereabouts.
    • First game I have been able to see live this season and some very promising signs mixed in with a dreadful final ball at times. Great interaction between Sporar and Sol at the end seemed to suggest a good spirit in the camp as well which is good to see.    We all know it’s the hope that kills you but we look like we are a team who can only get better . Today should have been 5 at least and the concern is that we aren’t clinical but in Sporar we have a man who could get 20 this season once he gets the right pass my glass is half full again .....
    • As said above, how was today anything but a convincing win? We won 2-0, and 5-0 probably wouldn't have flattered us too much.
    • Just seen it.  That challenge was so daft that I can only assume he fancied a week off.  Playing for that lot you can't really blame him mind.
