So my understanding is that we have already agreed a deal with Flamengo, and this 'exclusive' is saying we have matched Fulham's offer for Muniz himself ie wages etc..

He follows up the tweet saying Fulham so haven't managed an agreement with Flamengo

Agree this is a possibility that just doesn't get translated very well.

It was tongue in cheek - more about how I find it a little cringey.  I can understand the players doing it but less so a manager.

I think it’s because of covid normally he would just sign something the fans have but now doesn’t want to pass pens and paper back and forth

Just wasting our time. We've got four weeks left and we need about eight players.

The guy chose Fulham so clearly we ain't his first option so *** him off.

I doubt we're many players first choice, we'd be cutting off our nose to spite our face if we avoided players who weren't desperate to come to Teesside.

I'm judging him against a player that most deemed solidly average last year.  He's had one year in the past 5 that good.  That's hardly a "league above".

A league above is your description.  Nothing in the past 5 years suggests that. Most people thought Marv was solidly average last year - and Ameobi is rarely that good.

I didn't say he was a league above to be fair, I just question picking out individual seasons to make comparisons when they have both played over 100 championship games.

He has literally played in the league above mind, if that's anything to go by

The only ITK are bausor and Gibson, it's a waiting game

Yep, they're the only ones close to the situation.  It's not necessarily a waiting game though.  Their positioning has to be:  we stand by our bid;  we aren't backsliders, we are honourable people and you can trust us to keep our promises.  The deal ain't dead until contracts get signed, with whoever

No but the person I was actually responding to did. I then merely compared their last season, suggesting this was not the case.  Then they said look at other seasons.  Which I did, with Ameobi's last 5 years all being rubbish, bar one.

And then you popped up, though apparently you agree that Ameobi is not "a league above" Johnson, so it's unclear why you are worried about which year of his career I'm cherry picking.

Didn’t flamengo prefer our offer anyway? Why would we equal Fulham’s if they preferred ours anyway? Makes me think it probably isn’t true

I think it's just a poor translation. I think Fulham actually equalled our offer, then because we dropped out of the running, we are now (apparently) technically equalling their offer.

Fulham weren't his first option either. He probably would have preferred to sign for Barcelona, or Man City.

Very few of our current (or indeed former) players would have chosen Middlesbrough of all the clubs in the world.

I just cannot see Ameobi scoring half a dozen goal or playing more than a dozen full games. Shows the level we have fallen to. I would rather push one of our young ones rather than rely on the likes of Ameobi.

Yeah it seems a lot of people don't actually know that Ameobi ain't great. He's mid-table to bottom-half Championship player. FIne as a backup option or on a bench. But not as a starter. His contribution isn't there.

    • Check out the love between Crooks & Payero. Makes me warm and fuzzy inside.
    • The club themselves probably won't come out and make any public statements about the ongoing thing because it gives their side something to argue with. When the Derby fans picked up on the FMTTM post, immediately it was sent to the administrators so they were aware of it. They want the narrative to change and as much as I'd hate to see Derby go out of business, they are playing dirty from a very risky position. The fans are desperate, they're still messaging our fan groups for us to do something about it. I think they're being left in the dark about the entire situation by both sides though. Right now, going by what Simon Jordan said the other day, us and Wycombe are waiting for an offer from the Derby end to try and settle the problem. Also, listening to him speak about it made it sound like the administrators are just trying to do their best to make the club a good asset to sell. The whole thing about them using the government's COVID scheme to push back their debts then putting the club into administration to write them off was seemingly just as dirty a tactic as Morris has been getting up to all along to essentially give the club a way of coming back significantly stronger with any half-decent investor. Walking into a debt-free football club sounds like Christmas day which is exactly why Mr. Ashley is sniffing around and is even willing to make a deal with us to get it done. Gibson looks like he's trying to make sure it's not as easy as that and if they want to do it, they'll have to give us something and quick.
    • Thanks for the welcome. No idea where you get Colchester from (lol), live just outside Stokesley, 20 minutes from the Riverside Stadium.
    • Surely the club are going to have to come out and clarify their position on this Derby issue at some point very soon...? Derby fans are (understandably) going to fight tooth and nail to save their club, and at the moment they're controlling the narrative around the whole thing. I worry we will soon be painted as villains in the media, 'trying to liquidate a club meaning a town loses its football team and people lose their jobs etc.' To be clear I'm not saying it's as black and white as that - but that's the story that's being painted on social media with petitions etc, and calls for MPs to get involved. February 12th has the potential to kick off massively when they visit the Riverside and I'm concerned this whole debacle is going to start detracting from what Boro should be getting discussed for - a great turnaround in form and a genuine shot at going up. If Gibson doesn't have a rock solid defence of what's going on I'd rather we just dropped it and focussed on the football.
