Dan's Summer Transfer Thread. Aka: " Post Mortem Time""

I can't remember the last time we actually had strikers who were what you'd call dedicated goalscorers (15-20 goal a season types). For quite a while now we seem to have shared goals all around the team.

I think Britt managed it a couple of seasons ago and Bamford a few before that. But apart from them, we very rarely seem to have prolific goalscorers.

This is Britt 7th season in championship and he hit the 15 goal mark twice in them 2 seasons in league. In his 1st season at Forest and 1st season for us.

He has never got to 16 goals in a season at this level.

Albeit he is now 28 so entering the so called prime period of his career.

No surprise at all but Warnock confirms Britt is leaving in summer and has possibly played his last game for us unless there a injury crisis up front.

Also confirms he is hopeful of making a signing early doors in summer.

Warnock has to take some flack for the failed captain experiment surely? Awful management.

As for Britt, I've always liked him more than the average fan, but there's no getting away from the fact that he has been a huge disappointment for the fee we paid for him, especially when we already had bamford on the books.

If Fletcher and Johnson go too is it just howson left from that summer of spending? We got our money back on Christie and Randolph, some of our money back on bratihwaite and the rest will all leave on frees. No overstating just how bad that window has been for us.

Such a shame it never really worked out. But the time he has been here has been awful for Boro in general.

I'm fascinated to see what we actually end up doing this summer. Gibson might well just go hell for leather again. If FFP has been binned to all intents and purposes Gibson can go all in again. Here's hoping.

Think that's very, very wishful thinking. Money simply isn't there. We will bring in mostly loans, freebies, and maybe 1-2 cheap signings.

Really don't see that happening if the club's finances are as precarious as the figures suggest.

Even before the pandemic he was still subsidising Boro to the tune of around £1m a month. God only knows what the drain on his businesses has been like for the last year or so.

Shame it never worked out for Britt, but with the constant chopping and changing of managers (4 in his time here) it was never a "stable" environment for him to flourish.

Shame we couldn't cut our losses by getting a fee for him, but at least with his wages off the books it gives us a fair bit of wiggle room.

Dont accept that argument in the 4 years we had him we had 4 different managers, forest had him for 3 years and had 6 different managers. Surely if that argument was true he'd had a worse spell at forest.

Relatively Gibson doesn't change managers that often compared to other chairmen's, he gives them a fair chance weirdly enough it tends to work out better for other clubs sacking them every 6 months look at Watford for example done that consistently for the last 10 years.

True but of those 6 coaches he's not exactly had a Woodgate/Warnock type to contend with.

Either way he's a prime example of our disjointed thinking/scatter gun approach of transfer windows past and it'll be good to move on from it.

Since the end of the January window, we seem to have had a worse run of results; 5 wins 2 draws and 6 losses than we did before we signed our 3 “flair” players.

Were we a better team without them?

We had lost 5 of the last 8 before we signed them.

Seems like there might be more to the Dael Fry injury than meets the eye 👀

If it's transfer related it's unsurprising. I assumed him and Tav would be picked up at some stage, partly because they are good players and partly due to our financial position.

Anything to support this or is it still just the fact he's injured?
