Warnocks whole not signing anyone he hadn't personally scouted sort of indicates that were (once again) tearing up how we were doing things and starting with another different approach this summer. That's kind of my point, let them do the job (like under Woodgate) and they appear to be fairly competent. Shift away from that and we start to dip into the realms of trusting someone who wanted to shell out £6m on Gary Madine 😬😬😬

GrimsbyBoro 1,968
Our entire scouting system is bizarre, despite every other summer being told we are stats based and money ball there is no consistency to what we are doing. After the early Brexit we went to Monk who diddled us out of millions buying players through his agent. Essentially did the exact same thing with ‘both ends of the deal’ Pulis before coming to woody. So were Woody’s signings from the scouting team, his agent or from connections in the game. They certainly weren’t very good under him. Then on to Warnock and his mates down the boozer routine (except for Hall who had already signed). Despite this chopping and changing every window we get linked to same players. there appear to be no consistency and certainly no model we are following. And that’s even without the bizarre changes in management style every switcheroo.

The recruitment team are having to change the profile of players as much as we've recently changed managers. No surprise that the better operators of the transfer windows seem to be the teams with consistency in playing style and managers.
wilsoncgp 9,283
I'd honestly love to eye up the lists our scouts/stats guys serve up so we can scrutinize them the same way we scrutinize the signings we do make, to see when we had a chance of signing somebody who has come good, when we were fortunate to avoid a mistake. So we can look at whoever the stats guys gave to Warnock and he said within 5 seconds that they can't defend and see whether we agree with him.

Gibson lost a lot of money because he's not clued up with regards to football. He wouldn't run his company as poorly as he runs the clubs. He's been well and truly taken for a ride. Of course we'll always be grateful to him for what he does but most of the issues are self-inflicted because he appears to be too stubborn to get someone in that does know football. We have no consistency or model to build the club around. It's been all over the place since we January 2016.
Mr_Maz 2,899
we realy don't know how the club operates behind the scene.

Unfortunately I don't see this changing until Gibson realises this short-termism is the reason Boro aren't making any progress. I mean, how can you progress when you don't plan any further ahead than the next season (when you don't have PL millions to buy solutions to problems)?
ABH 470
We seem to have the same transfer targets regardless of who is the manager once a name goes onto the list we continue to try to sign them regardless of who we have in charge

Its not Gibson who needs to change. Eh - give your head a shake man! Karanka lost the dressing room and was on a hiding to nothing in the end. I don't recall the fans turning on Monk because of results. He just didn't smash the league as promised. Most of the hate for him stemmed from some of his comments about the club and the fact he spent a huge amount of money but didn't get us back in the PL. In any case I think the decision to sack him was because he didn't have us near the top of the table...similar to Southgate, rather than because he was doing a really bad job. Gibson actually wanted Pulis to stay...but on half his previous salary. But the football was dire and Boro were unlikely to progress under him. Woodgate was an utter disaster and had to go to save our Championship status. Warnock did the job he was brought in to do , but is on the verge of retirement. Like Pulis his style of football is technically limited and not likely to bring much success. Gibson is the guy who hires our managers and its his fault he keeps hiring old guys who are one or two contracts away from retirement, or rookies who are out of their depth. Its his fault he's splashed the cash one season then forced the next guy to work with limited funds. Its Gibson's fault the club has never had a long term plan of 3 or more seasons, which was based on slow and steady growth. Its always been boom or bust with him. Who else would you blame for the lack of forward planning? The chairman doesn't have to sack a manager just because the fans don't like him, but the last several appointments were unsustainable for a variety of reasons, either financial, footballing or simply due to the manager's age.
