What? It wasn’t personal. How could it be personal when I have no idea what he voted. It was purely stating fact that the English population voted to exit the EU. People constantly say that we should look at cheap foreign talent and I’m merely reminding those that it’s not possible due to Brexit as those players in all likelihood won’t get a work permit, as they need to be regulars for their national team. How is that political?

Come on lads, let's kiss and make up. Let's forget about politics on this thread and talk about football, or we can return to biscuits. How about dreaming of when we can return to the Riverside and have a pint 🍺 and a burger 🍔 at halftime.

I like to get a pork pie 🥧  in the good food joint for half time when I’m over. Yum yum 😋

If we'd voted remain it would've been a far tastier Pilsner and  Paella at halftime... 😉

He is right though. Brexit is and will have an impact on us. That isn't political, it's fact. We are having to look at cheap lower league options rather than cheap foreign options. Brentford have got promoted at just the right time. Their model wouldn't work in the UK now. Watford's might. They can use their overseas clubs to bed players in.

So other than our own youth players we are looking at premier loans, out of contract UK based players or the likes of Dijksteel, Brown and Bola.

One problem is our fans would have binned those 3 off after 6 games. Thankfully we couldn't or chose not to.

We need to adjust our mindset as a club. And hope we can build and effective team with the options we have. It is possible.  But needs time, luck and patience.

Don't be obtuse.

It is entirely political to claim a poster voted to "stop foreigners taking their jobs" and completely unnecessary.

It's still political if it's referring to the UK as well.

Yeah that last part was perhaps a bit unnecessary but it was in no way a personal attack.

At the end of the day it is something we need to consider for all the people wanting "cheap foreign talent". It's going to be very hard to purchase those players now because of the new work permit rules. That is a relevant topic of conversation for this thread unfortunately, whatever people want to claim.

Although BD, you could have phrased it a little better than you did!

Also worth remembering the Brexit vote was pretty close. Around 48% voted against it, so its not like the entire country wanted it.

Personally I couldn't care less where we get our players from, as long as they can do the business.

I guess it will still be the case the we can get better overseas players for the same money we'd pay for British ones, but in that regard Boro are in the same boat as every other club.

Brexit has also opened up option to be able to sign a lot of players outside the EU that wouldn’t  of got a work permit before brexit

Those rules pretty much existed before. The next effect is it is now harder for us to sign players than it was.

Not really. Certainly not for us. A few South American leagues and international competitions have been bumped up the points ladder, but we’re not signing any Brazilian or Argentinian internationals anyway. The biggest clubs might find it easier though.

How did we manage to sign Carlos De Pena from South America did he have a EU family heritage for a passport or what. But yeah it would of been better to phrase this topic as being due to brexit work permits are harder than blatenly saying you British voted for brexit to keep foreigners out the country.
