Didn't Warnock say he wanted four players in before we started pre-season on 1st July?

next week or so wil be interesting.

why would any free agent sign so early? they always go as long as possible to get the best deal and avoid preseason.

Just seen this on sky transfer center.

Middlesbrough are among several Championship clubs keen on Wycombe striker Uche Ikpeazu.

Millwall, Derby and Nottingham Forest also have the 26-year-old old on their summer transfer target lists.

He scored six times and setup four more in 31 Championship appearances last season, as Wycombe were relegated.

Ikpeazu impressed enough to attract attention from other clubs and he is expected to be an affordable option at Championship level.

Ikpeazu joined Wycombe from Hearts last summer and has two years left on his current deal at Adams Park.

Some may want the reassurance that their future is sorted out - there are a lot of players out of contract this summer.

there are also practical implications like giving you family more time to settle into a new area.

Or it could equally go the other way, with clubs making other signings they're after and being left having to sign for anyone that will take you, on their terms.

Like a few of the other lads, not claiming to be in the know but got a bit of info at the weekend. Came from someone within football that knows a few of our lads so got every reason to believe him.

Supposedly we’ll go after Ikpeazu, the Wycombe striker, in the summer now that they’ve gone down.

I don’t think he looks great in front of goal but he’s a real handful and caused us all sorts of bother the two times we played them this season. I don’t think he’d be coming in as a first-choice mind.

Not trying to prove anything but the interest in Ikpeazu is definitely genuine. Think this one has legs.

Coming in early gives the players a chance to get into the team from day one. Come in late and you're already behind the other players. Avoiding pre season is a bit stupid, so I doubt any players think that's a good idea. Of course there are those players that have a number of offers, but there will be plenty of players that don't have many offers and will take what they can get.

Some may have already agreed everything, and are just waiting to announce. Others, may want to have it all sorted before pre - season starts.

Footballers always actively avoid pre-season when they're free agents? Since when?

If they avoid preseason they aren’t getting paid - logical to weigh up options until end of June but after that you have no income if you are a free agent. Some players, those with several clubs chasing them, might think it better to accept no money coming in for a few weeks in hope of having a bidding war for their services, but it’s a risky option as others have said.
