Woody got crucified for the same thing I guess part of the problem is like Dan said, Bola is following Jed Wallace all over the pitch at the moment so we can't really keep him at left-back, Johnson needs to keep an eye on the left-side of the pitch if Bola comes too far over, McNair is filling in when necessary too. Warnock clearly sees him as a danger man who he wants someone to keep an eye on without breaking the shape of a back 4 too much. For what it's worth, Wallace just had a really good chance but Bola and Johnson managed to track him enough to keep him from taking his time. Terrific ball through from Bennett.
