Introducing Chris Wilder MOTM (Man of the Moment)

Think Wilder is only early 50's so no reason why this cannot be long term project surely?

Woodgate was considerably younger than Wilder and look how long term that turned out!

The state MFC are currently in gave us reason to believe that when Scott came in we would be looking overseas for young up and coming players as well as a similar Coach to build a new mindset and planning. It's a bit like going to a five star restaurant and ordering egg and chips, nothing wrong with egg and chips but not at Savoy prices just because its on the menu as "oeufs et frites".

This isn't the long term strategy planning that we believed SG had just three months ago, it smacks of another vanity project.

Are people.really having a go about us appointing an experienced, promotion winning, club record beating manager being put in charge above a former player who does have pedigree, but zero experience?

In terms of pedigree, 16 months ago Wilder was runner up to Jurgen Klopp for LMA manager of the year and spoken about as one of the best English managers around for us to get him to come to manage us

i'd personally go for farke over wilder but sounds like its already a done deal, but atleast its an improvement over warnock so cant be disappointed.

What's weird is scott being norwich's DoF and farke being sacked same time as warnock and having worked together previously plus the fact nothing officially has been announced yet has my tinfoil hat thinking people are saying wilder to deflect attention from farke.

either way glad warnocks gone cant take anymore of those shambolic team self implosion performances and blame the ref's anymore.

onwards and upwards!

I am not entirely convinced about Wilder for two reasons. 1) I'm not sure he fits well with the DofF model. 2) He was impressive with Sheffield United until it all went badly wrong, but I feel part of that was the chemistry he had with that particular club (a bit like Karaka with us before things turned ugly). We are not Sheffield United and it is unlikely that the same chemistry would exist with us - just like Karanka hasn't been successful anywhere since he left here. I'm not sure he will be able to get anywhere close to replicating his success with Sheffield United here, and fans will expect him to and will expect it quickly.  I would have preferred either an up and coming young manger on his first championship appointment who would not have the same expectations attached to him, or someone who had already proved himself with 2-3 championship clubs.

What about the chemistry he had at Northampton and Oxford where he also enjoyed promotion?

Wilder managerial career did not start at Sheffield and his sole success is not with them either

If Wilder has accepted the job, be under no illusions that he knows that Scott will be in charge of recruitment. He must be happy with that else he wouldn’t come would he?

On paper, he is a good fit - albeit a little underwhelming because he’s not foreign or exciting.

We want a manager who will score goals and he’s got a record of doing that. We want a manager who plays possession football, again he does that. He’s not a rookie, and he has winning success AND championship experience. Again, tick, tick, tick.

Signings will be out of his control, so players like McBurnie won’t hopefully happen again. Any appointment is better than where we were going with Warnock. Again, Wilder might not be the answer but I’m willing to see where it goes with an open mind after the soul sucking seasons of Warnock, Pulis and Woodgate

To be honest, it would fit with Warnock's slightly strange comment about the new manager being very well known to some people in the club.

I'm happy with Chris Wilder, he did a fantastic job at Sheffield United.

My only negative is there are already a few unhappy with his appointment.

You have to give everyone a chance and to be fair he's a really good manager if you have a certain squad. I just don't think we have the players to suit his style if he's going with what he did at sheff utd. I can't see us having the money to get 4 or 5 in January to change the squad drastically unless we know there's one or two who are going.

Who knows he may have more strings to his bow than the 532 he played at sheff. From the outset it doesn't look a great fit but everybody needs to give him the chance to show what he can do.

100% agree -although I think Wilder isn't underwhelming...he is as good as we could have hoped for.

Well regardless of our individual or collective views Steve Gibson has seemingly managed to disunite the fan base before a ball is kicked.

It is one of his specialisms!

I am reserving judgement about Wilder. I fear that our fans will be expecting the impossible from him, though, and that never ends well.

That I think is the problem, we weren't expecting "as good as we can hope for" we were more expecting a unknown German/Italian/Spaniard who could lead us to punching above our weight.

The other positive with Wilder is there wont be a massive squad overhaul as there are plenty of players in our squad who fit in to how Wilder wishes to play in my view. I have a question for those that know more than me about Wilder.

1. Is he a big fan of 3.5.2 to point that is only system he plays or he is flexible?

I wanted a unknown foreigner because it would mean we all didn't have a prejudgement. However Wilder is good he will get us back to playing possion football and control games alot more than Warnock has had us doing.
