Lumley?

The one and only time I'll be itk- Lad fell out with Gardner and bowyer after they got him to sign a new deal with the promise of first team opportunity and they never followed through.  Giv

Thing that’s *** me off with this Tav talk is the disrespect from our fans on social media and forums, more so social media but I have seen comments today like ‘ I will drive him there’ in regards to

He has, but he's played most of his games with us as centre back.

Alright fair enough but that doesn't really mean he's doing anything other than filling in though.

Its a pointless argument really, I dont see the long term vision will one with a squad with 6 established centre backs because I don't think you'd keep them all happy. If anyone thinks differently thats fine we'll have to agree to disagree, can't be arsed arguing semantics on a topic thats not really that important.

The more the season goes on the more i'd be making a new LWB a priority. Either that or bring back Coulson. Bola isn't giving us enough especially when the centre is congested and we have to go wide like today. His flank was a dead end.

We currently have 5 even excluding Wood plus Dijksteel and Bola slotting in.

Fry, McNair, Hall, Bamba, Peltier.

I'd argue dijksteel isn't slotting in, he's playing at cb a lot in his career and wilder has only played him there even now that we have plenty of fit defenders. I think wilder considers him as one of his centre backs.

We really need Spence back he'd be perfect for the wing back role and is smashing it at forest

I'd say Jones is not a problem at the moment though, he's doing a good job. I don't think we really need him back as much as we really need to make signings in other areas. Though I do want him back to give us more options in that wing back role.

I don't think he had played at centre back in a three until Warnock tried it. He was a midfielder at Charlton until pressed into service as a right back at the end of the season. I agree that right-sided centre back looks like his ideal position but he is in competition with McNair for that slot. McNair is currently filling on the left-side and doing a good job of it but he's not naturally left-footed so the defence feels imbalanced. We're fortunate to have Bamba and Peltier who are willing to act as experienced back-ups and Peltier can just about fill-in as a LCB in an emergency. If we do sign a specialist LCB then Hall is definitely surplus to requirements and it is hard to see Wood getting a game.

Would we not switch Jones to Left Wing Back if need be?

If we recalled Spence then couldn't we play Jones as LWB?

He's seems very capable of playing on each side

Short answer is no. Wilder clearly wants his full backs to be on the side which suits they natural foot.

The fact he went and got Taylor as short term cover despite NW seemingly not wanting him tells us the emphasis he places on the RWB being right footed and the LWB being left footed. And the same applies for cover in both positions.

I think we need to stick with round pegs in round holes. I’m also not so sure Spence is coming back but we’ll see.

I personally don’t think we will witness to many transactions. Remember we are only one short of the allowed max registration so we would need to offload before bringing in greater numbers. That means first offloading poor quality players which won’t be easy because convincing someone to buy a couple of three legged donkeys requires a special skill set.
I think the difference this time I hope SG has more trust in Chris and therefore has an appetite to invest and release a fair budget. I’m pretty sure in as much as the first team is concerned, it will be a business of quality over quantity but I also suspect if there is a chance Chris will want to offload the crook and hangers on ready for the next window.
I also expect to see the second string playing a bigger part as Chris has them set out playing the same style and tactics as the first string.
My belief is a few quality players will be sort to strengthen the current squad and more work will be done to develop the team on fitness and tactics. The second string will be moulded to replace a like for like as back up and geared to challenge for positions. There will be a clear out of those that don’t fit in with the long term plan. This will be done without disrupting progress that may give a shot at a play off spot.

I reckon you are right. We don't need a plethora of new players but if we can add a quality striker and keeper then I'll be happy and there are a number of players that I won't mind us moving on: I'm not fussed about any of the three keepers and I expect at least one of them to leave, Hall, Uche and Onel can leave for me too as can Siliki if Wilder has seen that he won't make it in the championship. That should be enough to add 2-3 quality players in the right positions. I'd rather add a few of quality and use the U23's as the outer resorts in case of unjury crisis. Why else keep an A grade academy. Do we really need someone like Siliki sitting on the bench when we can just as well have one from the academy?
