Do you get invited by other clubs directors if all you're there for is to scout the opposition?  And if you're friends with the current manager wouldn't you at least mention it to him?

Jordan could just be stirring the pot like, but with his links to Gibson I doubt it.

His links to Gibson only really put himself in the shoes of Gibson. Which, right now, if you were in Gibson's shoes, you probably would be a bit annoyed. It wouldn't put him in the position of defending Wilder for Gibson.

God, losing that "e" is a dangerous game......

Whatever’s happening this needs sorting soon, can’t be in our position with a slight chance of play offs letting this become a massive distraction. A club statement either way is required fairly soon I’d say

We'll finish this season with more club statements than points if we carry on

No, but if he is just stirring then he's helping to create, or at least adding to, negative feelings from the fans at a time when we really need to be positive and united if we are going to make a decent push for the playoffs.  That's not going to sit well with Gibson.

I never got the impression him and Gibson were friends or particularly close, even during the Derby stuff. They clearly talk and Gibson used him as a helpful mouthpiece to get stuff out unofficially about the Derby thing, but the relationship never came across as particularly pally to me.

I think managers do usually sit in the directors box when they go scouting in fairness, especially if Wilder had a word with Dyche and told him he was coming. The fact they were playing Spurs a week before we were lines it up pretty well.

Apparently Dyche had no idea wilder was there though

Going to Burnley (or anywhere else for that matter) to scout on upcoming opposition (be it United, Spurs or Chelsea) isn't unusual. That fact that it was Burnley is a little uncomfortable and hopefully coincidental. Being invited to the Directors area again isn't all that unusual to avoid fans creating a problem and being a pain asking for pics and autographs etc.

There may have been a curved ball thrown at Wilder while he was there to sound him out along the lines of his intention to stay at Boro or if something better came calling would he listen to the offer? Depending on his response that may have set some thought lines in motion which eventually culminated in "remember that brief chat we had a few weeks back"?

Watching us battle United and beat Spurs along with a credible fight against Chelsea with a Championship squad could have made the Burnley Directors sit up and think. It could all just be two and two and people getting five out of it but I'm guessing that SG will not be happy and I wouldn't be surprised if Jordan is maybe firing bullets on his mates behest.

I highly doubt that.

TalkSport specialise in stories having just enough truth in them that they are believable and just enough inflated/made up stuff that they are entertaining. I absolutely believe that Wilder was there, the rest seems a bit sensational.

I’ll hold my hands up if I’m wrong, but this whole thing is becoming an absolute farce. Mountain out of a molehill. Is anyone surprised Wilder was at Burnley’s game when we were playing there opponents a week later? It’s got to a stage where boro fans will now try and find things to bash Wilder with. Even if he says hes staying at the club etc etc I fear many boro fans (not me) will always have that feeling that Wilder wanted out, even though it could be and probably is a load of **.
So yeah, this whole thing has become a ridiculous situation especially when you look at where we were as a club just a month ago. Wilder 100% should have handled the questions better to stop this happening, but he probably didn’t realise the backlash it would cause following recent poor results.

I think the only way we'll see a statement from the club on this is if he gets a new contract.

Gibson will probably be hoping Burnley solve this situation for us and hire somebody else to take them until the end of the season for now. If the Gazette are right, there's been no contact from Burnley to Boro so there's nothing much to comment on besides the internal workings of our own club.

We won't be keen on airing our dirty laundry, in my opinion. At least with the Derby stuff, the weight of football seemed to be getting chucked at us. Right now, it's 'just our fans', as awful as that feels to say.

I think this is 40% online hysteria, 40% trolling and wind-up merchants, and 15% Wilder screwing up an answer.

Johns in the Gazette says that something similar happened at Sheff Utd when Sunderland tried to lure him away. I also get the impression that Wilder has a bunch of red lines about things he will and won't say to the media and one of those may be comments about never denying nor confirming future employment.

I think, given that football is a small world, that someone from Burnley may well have sounded out Wilder informally and he may well have informally said "maybe, under certain circumstances" but I think that kind of thing is going on all the time.

I also think that Jordan has an anti-Wilder (and pro-Gibson) agenda; Wilder was clearly at Burnley to watch them play Spurs before we did. He appears to be buddies with Dyche and apparently is on record of being impressed by the way that Burnley were run.

However, the well-run Burnley of 2020 is not the debt-crippled basket-case of 2022 and I very much suspect that the American owners will be looking for a marquee manager to adorn the shop window rather than someone like Wilder who still has it all to prove at the top level.

Put it all together and I'm sure that Wilder has been sounded out, sure that he's been non-committal to them about it and sure that he's feeling gutted about what looks like us blowing our play-off chances but I think the only chance that he's going to Burnley this year is if Gibson sacks him.
