TeaCider's Summer Transfer Thread 2022 - AKA: Still Going For Just a Little Luongo

He was in January though, and we didn’t knock it out of the park then.  I know the suggestion might be that he was still relatively new here but he’s not new to recruitment.  We just did a bad job of it, and that has to be down to him.

I think the thing we don't know is how much sway Scott has overall and whether him and the manager are on the same page. The signings made last summer didn't seem to be very consistent, we seemed to have the Warnock signings which were British based players and then I assume the Scott signings from overseas.

The thing that Norwich seemed to do quite well at this level was pick up players from overseas. I remember Scott being credited with identifying players like Pukki and Buendia.

Now we have Wilder it feels like we are focusing on domestic players and I wonder whether we have the continuity between the manager and scouting department. If the signings are all identified by Wilder to fit a fairly rigid system then are we planning long term or just doing what we always do from one manager to the next.

Obviously I don't know the answers to any of the above but its something that I wonder.

We aren’t talking about how well it works though are we because as you say we don’t know yet. The debate was wether it’s been revamped and considering we’ve brought in a new guy to over see everything I find it pretty hard to believe he hasn’t revamped it considering how bad it’s been.

Yeah I know mate but the point is that other than the fact that we appointed someone we haven’t actually seen any evidence of any revamp.  I’m honestly not trying to be argumentative here.  You think his appointment means that there must have been one, and I’m not sure his appointment is anything more than just that by itself.

This is one thing I don’t like about wilder, history of not working well with DoF, stubborn about English speaking players (according to sheff utd fans) and as you say rigid with a system that relys on pretty hard to come by specialist players (wing backs) even spurs struggle to get good wing backs as did Chelsea when conte was there.

Another thing that puts me off about wing backs is if one is injured then you generally have to replace them with a square peg and lose all the balance and seriously hampers attacks.

I was thinking more along the lines of the likes of Miller. We signed a fair few players in and around that times for the under 23’s and flipped them.

I don’t think so mate.  You could be right but I didn’t think we got much for Miller, maybe 250k, and I don’t know what we paid for him.  I can’t remember many others like that either?

Not sure what his wage is but I doubt it’s £3m a season. I’d imagine we will be looking at around £3m all in.

I’m not sure how loans work but I’d imagine the loaner club would include promotion bonus or something in there somewhere? I’d imagine this ‘£5m’ figure if true is the absolute total package.

Forest close to signing O’Brien and Toffolo from Huddersfield.

Huddersfield will do incredibly well to even come close to repeating last seasons heroics

Since 2012 they've either been to a playoff final or a relegation battle.

£5m loan fee each might be what is being asked by Southampton and Fulham respectively but whether we pay / they get that is another matter. I can well believe that’s what they’ve asked for, Prem clubs don’t deal in reality where £ is concerned.

We will never see evidence of a revamp though will we? A revamp doesn’t necessarily mean sacking and replacing staff members. Changing how it works, how we scout players, the type of players we scout would all count as a ‘revamp’.

Surely common sense says bringing in a prominent figure in that line of work who said himself he came because he wanted the level of responsibility we offered him, would suggest a revamp? He will want to make a name for himself and put his own stamp on our recruitment and that won’t happen by following the Gary gill art of football recruitment.

Loan fees are odd, as a minimum you will normally cover a portion of their value or transfer fee owed for the time on loan, bonuses though are another thing.

That’s a good point I never thought of about covering repayment of the fee

I always question it.  Not quite sure what has happened over the last few years that would lead to people not questioning some things .

Didn’t you used to be blue?

Yeah but I decided to go for a more positive mental attitude and I'm feeling much more on top of things

A promotion bonus could easily be 1m, if not more, depending on the player/club
