Armstrong and Forss up front are 2 players that are trying to do the same thing imo

Plus just as there's as chance Gyokeres might not perform like last season the same logic applies to Armstrong

And I'd argue gyokeres is a better investment because he could still step upto the prem whereas Armstrong had failed to

armstrong is a good player, he could do a job in a prem team. saints play slow build up stuff. he'd be more suited to a countering side.

Usual story there of where is the prem interest for Gyokeres if he’s capable of that step up? Not even the promoted teams have gone for him and Fulham are looking for a striker. Lack of premiership interest in ‘top’ championship strikers is a huge red flag as we’ve discovered with britt and Rhodes.

apparently one likes to run onto balls from the left, and the other to the right. While, they may do similar things, if they're doing what we want and execute, then that's perfect.

I think we are investing on guaranteed goals in the Championship, both offer that. While Gyork could end up being a better investment if he's successful and we get promoted.  If Armstrong scores goals and we also get promoted, then his job is done and the investment was worth it, regardless of previous Premier league failers

Obviously there’s always going to be an inherent risk that a player isn’t going to recapture past form, all you can do is to look at their track record and try to predict how they might perform. Armstrong hit double figures in successive seasons, 44 goals across his last two years at Blackburn, as well as having a 1 in 2 strike rate in league 1.

As for saying Armstrong has failed to step up to the prem, I’d argue 5 goal involvements in 23 games isn’t terrible. Yes, Southampton seemingly want rid of him but there’s far worse players plying their trade there.

And while I agree that Forss and Armstrong are quite similar, we’re also apparently looking at Muniz and Hoppe so I don’t think they’d be partnered together but rather direct competition.
