He must be number one on our list if we were willing to pay £40,000 a week towards his wages. Spending 40k a week, at our level AND on a keeper would be totally ridiculous. We still have to keep to ffp and spending that much on Henderson would be madness, I can't believe its true because the numbers are so high.
Dynamo Kev 1,558
btw how good is gibson. we are getting full reinvestment of player sales and he'll still near enough max out ffp to get us the best team he can. if we were in the prem and had a few gems sold for 150 combined he'd reinvest the lot. no other owner would do that. we are very lucky. just need some actual success with the new buy and sell at a profit template we are trying. we could find ourselves in a position like Leicester before we know it.

If there’s one position I would spend over the odds on it would be GK. A good keeper gets you an extra 10-15 points over a season. Ours cost us probably that amount. That’s literally going to be a 20 point swing. Getting this position right is going to be massive for us. 3

A Gyokeres/Piroe type player would be perfect I'm with you there, we definitely need a partnership built. Personally I'd rather go for a busier quick forward alongside side a deeper playing technical forward but can still appreciate the workhorse/target man type if we go that way. Denzel Zanzibar 6,972
Armstrong on a season long loan with an obligation to buy if certain targets are met, similar to the Sporar deal makes the most sense to me. Heaton would be a decent signing but I wouldn't really want to rely on him as first choice.
Guffie 1,009
I just hope this season, we get a solid partnership. We aren’t mixing it up every single game, a consistent “good” partnership will get us automatics no problem. Gykores/Armstrong be perfect for me, I like Piroe from Swansea. But the fact he wants to jump ship after one season doesn’t bode well. I don’t think it’s a good thing to chuck 40k towards a keeper on loan, without the right squad. If we get our striker targets then am all for it

Redcar Rioja 5,979
Heaton seems a strange one but as mentioned on here about the same age as Given was not to mention Dimi when they were here and both are rightly regarded as successes. Looking at the links so far, Heaton with Lenihan in front and assuming that Howson remains is a very solid and experienced spine of a team. Then (daring to hope) Gyokeres and Armstrong or similar with proven energy and ability up front and next season is already looking likely to yield a better points return. The negatives are that we still haven't found a LWB or a Left sided CB plus of course Tav may be enticed away and maybe even Dijksteel and then there is the time needed to Gel. The goalkeeper is arguably the most important position on the pitch to get right, certainly up there with goal scorers in my humble opinion. It is a specialist position that has a major impact many times a game. Far too many fans underestimate their importance, it isn’t just about shot stopping, it is about commanding the box on crosses, set pieces, marshalling defenders, distribution, confidence building for defenders etc as well. Look at how it was when we went from Schwarzer to Jones/Turnbull and from Randolph to Bettinelli/Lumley etc. All good managers build from the back, solid foundations are required in buildings and a good goalkeeper provides a solid foundation for a successful football team. No football team ever wins promotion or a trophy with a dodgy goalie.

As far as I'm aware Gyokeres hasn't been causing a stink.

caseybwoy 130
The big thing is you only really need a solid keeper, till promotion of course. A solid keeper last year would have offset probably 12-15 points that lumley lost us. A decent striker 15-20 goals is also a must and probably would have gained us another 10 points last season. Of the two you can pick up a solid keeper fairly cheap or on loan, but a proven championship striker that has scored more than 15 in a season you’re normally talking at least 7/10 mil. If getting a cheap solid keeper means we can bring in a proven goal scorer or two then I’m all for it and heaton fits that bill.
