Could he be a more realistic option to lad at Coventry who looks like he has suitors higher up? I'd personally rather our scouting department earned their keep (easier said than done I know!) than pay through the nose for Gyökeres or Riis who haven't even proven they can provide goals on a consistent basis. Duncan Watmore scored more goals than the pair of them combined last season. We need to find one of these players before they explode onto the scene and treble their value. I know we'll have a decent war chest with the inevitable sale of Djed Spence or potentially a few others but the squad needs major surgery imo and we need to be shrewd.

Could have been just settling in though new club new country, he is Danish so maybe our Danish Boro fans on this forum know a bit more about him, and whether he would be worth looking at. JTG 2,267
I wonder with the mounting interest in Spence if we can leverage it to get a decent loan player in return from whoever he ends up going to. Might sweeten the deal?
estonpidge 1,442
Crooks will imo be one of the players leaving, 16 yellows and should have been more. I think Wilder sees him as the liability he is, regardless of his goal return.

Maybe the surprise will be Wilder rocking up in a Burnley club tracksuit with 'Claret4Eva' tattooed on his knuckles?

I thought we were recruiting players and the manager had to work with what he’s got? Now we’ve got a situation where a manager is saying, you’ve brought in X but I don’t like him so get rid of him. To me it's at least fairly easy to understand. Wilder was never intended to be the manager here. Whatever discussions were had before Scott agreed to join us, between Scott/Gibson/Bausor, should have included some potential managerial candidates, and I just don't think Wilder would have been mentioned. Something happened, I suspect they'd just had enough of Warnock and how we were playing, and they decided to make an earlier move. This lead to Wilder but by then we'd already wasted the summer transfer window for the most part. Crooks aside, it was largely fruitless. It needs to be stressed that Wilder doesn't want to work with a Director of Football, or rather, he's ok working with one just as long as he has the final say, which isn't quite how it is supposed to work. You can almost guarantee that this will cause problems in the future.
SouthernSmoggie 4,223
Riis and Gyokeres have done well for their clubs and suited their respective styles of play... I worry we'd sign them and they'd go the way of other Championship strikers with good records we've signed like Britt, Gestede, Rhodes, Hugill. We need players that 100% fit what Wilder wants. I'm still not sure I could say with confidence what attributes he does want in a striker though...? Hopefully he can.
Changing Times 12,218
To summarise the thread so far. We should get rid of: Lumley, Daniels, Bola, McNair, Fry, Jones, Spence, Crooks, Tavernier, Uche and all the loan signings. Howson should definitely get a new contract. If ever there was a recipe for success then I think we've found it 🙌

I think as evidenced by the quick January departure of Uche, he's after four strikers who are all in a similar mould so that he can make like for like changes in the game without it being to the detriment of his philosophy. That's not a criticism, just an observation. I accept that he wants a mobile front line, but I do think we need to match that up with somewhat of a physical presence. Our forwards have been bullied far too easily this season. Hopefully we can find someone who can play the pressing game but also stand their ground and hold the ball up when needed. BoroJake 2,331
I really don’t understand why balogun was dropped when he was just starting to hit form. It was an absolutely bizarre decision to me personally
Leesider 1,069
Any update on Ameobi? The silence has been deafening all season.Probably will be released without kicking a ball in anger. The only other similar comparison is Alex Bapiste. My memory might be playing tricks on me but i dont think he played before or after his leg break in pre season. At least everyone knew the situation, severity of the injury etc. With Ameobi it's all been a bit hush hush. Basically just said it's a bad knee injury and he was having a scan / seeing a specialist, never really given a proper time frame on when he's expected back. Pretty sure Wilder said at one point there was a possibility he would be back in March, we're now in May with the season having ended and there's still no sign of him. It definitely seems to me like there's more to it than has been disclosed by the club. Edit: https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/19808306.boro-hopeful-sammy-ameobi-return-training-february-march/ "Some will come back quicker than others but from Sammy’s point of view, I’m not expecting him back until February or March time.” Curious. Might sweeten the deal? If he ended up at Spurs who play a wing back system then would Joe Rodon the ex Swansea CB be an option? Not played much since his £12m move there. It is a question rather than a suggestion by me as I am not sure if he is left footed? If he left footed it could be a decent loan our way (plus £15m please) along with some add ons.
