You see players decline cos of age, and sometimes injuries do for them, but he’s 26 and as far as I’m aware he hasn’t been knackered with injury. He’s basically gone from being a very good player who potentially could have played for anyone to a shadow of himself. I was trying to think of other examples but I’m struggling. Mario gotze, was a world cup winning wonder kid ,earned a massive move to Bayern Munich aged 21 for 37 million, before ending up playing for PSV in the dutch league by the age of 27. EDIT: also earned 63 caps for germany but has been in the squad since 2017. Edited May 17, 2022 by tmcc
TLF10 4,440
In Joe Harts defence. He actually achieve something in his career before his career nose dived. As @Changing Times said Alli at his peak was being linked with likes of Real and Utd and England future. Jose said Fergie told him when he took over at Utd the one player he needs to target is Alli. His career has nose dived without any notable achievements.

So realistically he's had two bad seasons, i just don't see how that forces him into the championship so soon.Especially when he only went on loan 6 months with a transfer fee added of 40 million. No championship side could afford him even he was willing to move down. Also, he's only 26 and had 37 caps for England. Those facts coupled with his early career ability will probs lead to plenty of clubs well above championship level to be willing to take a punt on him. I never said he would go to the championship, I think he'd be better off going abroad. But those two seasons you mentioned were not good seasons, you might look at the numbers and think it's okay for a midfielder, but he played as a second forward for most of those behind Kane. He only started just over half of spurs games across those two seasons. And most importantly, if you watched him at all, his overall performances dipped massively in that time period. I do wonder if he’d come through in another country, say the UK or Denmark, would things have been different for him? Not that he’d necessarily be a better player but he would be largely unknown, just another talented lad in an age group, free to try and make a go of his career.

I don’t even remember him being that good really, just did a bit as a youngster and then got a big move. Did arsenal sign Richard Wright about the same time and his career nosedived as well? Alli definitely achieved more, he had a couple of very good seasons in the PL and then a good world cup, but Jeffers was seen as the next big thing and Arsenal paid a lot of money for him, about £9m I think. There was the belief that he'd go on and be England and Arsenal number 9 for the next 10 years.
