as i said in my orginal comment, the main point was wanting to play football.

Also im not critcising the town, im just stating a something that i thought was a well known fact, that players want to be in and around london if possible. And clearly you know it also as you stated he wants to be closer to london your reply.

You said Middlesbrough isnt an attractive place for footballers which sounds like a criticism.

I'm not trying to single you out but I get a bit sick of people criticising the area on this site. I've said it before on here, a lot of posters on this site don't live locally and forget that some of us still do. I know you haven't ripped into the area but many others on here have in the past and I get a bit defensive.

I just don't see how Nottingham was a more attractive place than Middlesbrough to play football until yesterday. More often than not players will be attracted to a club thats going places and for the last 20 years that's been us more than Forest.

Oh good, people can stop getting offended on his behalf now.

Nah, I'll continue to think it was dickhead behaviour from Spence, Warnock has just handled it well.

sometimes the truth can sound like criticism, but I'm not criticizing. I'm just stating that if you had the option to move to a small northern town or to a city with close proximity to London, most players will pick the latter.

And I agree, that money and size is more important in deciding where a player goes, but if the wages are the same, and both clubs are performing the same on the pitch, Most players will pick the southern club. Its just a sad fact of the UK.

I don't think it's a secret that we've historically had to pay above the odds to get players to come up here.

I'm guessing that he wasn't saying Boro is a less attractive place to play football...the stadium and facilities are fine. Its  more that its a less attractive place to live / socialise in.

I'm aware the town has undergone some fairly major redevelopment since I lived in the area, but it has been quoted in the media a number of times as being one of the most deprived areas in the country...which probably doesn't help. Probably also still has the "stigma" of being a former heavy industry town and generally not being particularly glamorous.

Not saying Nottingham is much better, but may be perceived as being preferable as its not in the "smoggy North East".

Remember footballers get most of their info from social media. 😉

From me?

Plenty of people think it was a needless and classless tweet from Spence, because it was.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain it was you arguing with me until blue in the face that Spence had been no different for Forest when I came on here and said that Forest supporting friends were raving over him? You were one of his most vocal critics, so yeah it doesn't surprise me that you specifically won't move on.

I have moved on?

I'm very pleased that he's done well enough for us to profit hugely from his sale, I've only watched about 5 Forest games where he's played all season, so I can't give a full judgement on him.

But of those matches, he was excellent against Arsenal and he did very little in the rest, I'm still not fussed on him.

But it's you who's spent the last day jumping in to defend him over a childish tweet, whilst slating other people for taking issue with it.

I'm not sure it is the truth though, how often have we missed out on players because they've chosen Forest over us which was the original comment.

I'm not sure how anyone could view Nottingham as anything other than a typical northern town either. Its hardly a big cosmopolitan city.

I know there's a perception that the North East is a *** hole but I'd rather our fans challenged that than went along with the lazy stereotype.

If we play attractive football and are challenging for promotion then players will want to play here. Its not like we can't compete with other clubs for wages at this level either.

this was clearly the reaction warnock wanted to see from spence when loaned him out in the first place, Im not sure why people would of took him as being offended.

sez more about spence than warnock I think, he was always loaned out so would come back either as a better player or increase his stock if leaving in summer. But even still I think its just blew out of proportion and just banter between them both publicly.

I think Warnock just wanted rid of him, had there been a permanent deal on the table that would've allowed him to buy a player I think he would've snapped their hands off. Then we'd be sat here now thinking about what could've been if we hadn't given up on him.

I agree that it was almost definitely banter, nothing Djed said in his tweet was disrespectful or critical in any way, just a lighthearted jab at a manager who doubted him.

again, I wasn't saying forest specifically, I was saying the south in general and London, it just so happened this player we are currently discussing has gone to Forest.
