A huge question needs to be asked if Wilderball is the way forward for the Club?

It's a very particular style of Football suited seemingly to one Manager, surely that goes against what the bigger plan for the Club is (or at least was) to stop us flip flopping in styles from one Manager to another leaving the incoming Manager with a squad not fit for purpose.

I would say its a high risk strategy.

Wilder only knows one way to set his teams up, which means Boro are very dependent on bringing in players that fit his style of play. Furthermore, we need to be good enough that even when other teams set up to counter our tactics, we can still beat them without a Plan B.

Dunno about anyone else, but I'm not entirely convinced about this.

3-5-2 CAN work - there have been at least a couple of other teams who have used this (or variations of it) to good effect...though tellingly none of the top 6. But to repeat myself, we are very dependent on getting round pegs to fit in round holes, otherwise other teams will simply exploit weaknesses where we have players who are not really suited to their roles.

Is it just me or do people seen to be less willing to give wilder his chance next season after a half year finishing 7th than they were to give Warnock another season last summer after finishing 10th

Bit of length one here lads, but i needed to post it for my own sanity. I keep reading comments of people talking about how luton and sheffield are playing sides "with nothing to play for" and It

Are you watching the same stream as me?

We need stability. He hasn't had a full transfer window yet. We did more this season than I expected us to. I am hoping that the recruitment team has identified the needs we have, and I'm hoping we can make some shrewd summer acquisitions.

Recent past performance hasn't been exactly inspiring but I live in hope. That's the thing, it's the hope that kills you.

I agree that Boro need some stability, I just hope Wilder and the recruitment team can deliver and that they have enough money to do so.

I really don't follow how Wilderball is so far from any other positive, possession-based brand of football. If you buy players to suit a possession-based style of football and the next manager has his own iteration of possession-based football, why would we need to flip-flop from one style to the next?

I suppose the answer would be that not all have that shape or seem to emphasise central defenders joining attacks?

Tell Wilder he can go to Burnley as he is a one truck pony . Wouldn’t trust him to spend the Spence money on a forward if he thinks Balogun and Connolly are forwards!!

Beh Mogga to come back as he will at least have money this time. He at least knows what a forward is (Armstrong and Breteton)

Disgraceful display today but Wilder has blown it in the last month and this is just the culmination

Gary I think a return by Mogga would come at the right time far too many issues raised by Wilder and his tactics and certainly my faith has evapourated in him the longer the season went on

I'm not sure that rumour is going to go away when we've ended the season like this.

The rumour famously created by boro fans and bookies odds.

I think it might be something to do with the 3 centre-backs and wing-backs.

If we reverted to playing 4 at the back and normal wingers, we might find ourselves short of a couple of players, even if the playing philosophy is the same (or similar).

Just throwing it out there as a possibility - not claiming any expertise here.

Warnock must be laughing his head off.He left us 4 points off the play offs.

We managed to get further away.

Recruitment  & Wilders role in it largely to blame for our failure to make the play offs.

Ultimately we lacked a decent keeper this season which has probably cost us a playoff spot.

Not only that we've lacked a genuinely top class striker as well, sort both of those things out and we're likely a playoff spot.

It's a huge window coming up. We will be losing several players and we were already a few players short. It doesn't excuse some of the shocking displays in the last few weeks but when we lost Fry we saw how big a miss he was. Likewise with Jones who doesn't seem to have returned since his illness/injury.

Our own displays have cost us a run in the playoffs which is a huge shame but given our record at Wembley it's probably best being put out of our misery now.

Trouble is hope has been a real let down this season we as fans need to know that next time it will be on action

My thoughts on what Wilder needs to do next season:

Sign a GK who's not an absolute 🤡

He needs to sort out the engine room, I don't want Howson getting 35+ games if we keep him there's younger more athletic midfielders better suited to our style out there.

Move McNair into the right central midfield position, bring in a left footed centre back and another to replace Bamba in the depth chart.

Bring in three strikers, minimum two of them permanently and have a good mixture of styles.

Sign a set piece specialist - ideally a LWB suited set piece specialist.

Look at our U23s over the summer and try to bring 1-2 into the squad.

Last thing is if we are absolutely flying come December and you're linked with a Bournemouth job either go straight away or commit, that wishy washy stuff hurt your stock with the fanbase.

He left us 14th. 4 points off in November is no useful metric at all.

    • Yes I totally agree. He’s already admitted he could have put Fry on but even if he doesn’t we have a forward on the bench and there’s 7 minutes left why not put him on with Forss instead of playing a midfielder out of position.     what a total kick in the balls that result is, feels like a defeat.
    • hopefully in the next week there's gonna be a few surprises.. I mean, wasn't wilder on about 4 new players?
    • I don't think we're signing a right sided central defender.
    • signed 3 free transfers and 3 loans.. only paid actual cash money for 2 strikers, both of which have been referred to as being 'ones for the future', and combined fee's for both mount to 1/5 of what we've received from Spence & Tavernier. So obviously our main striker is yet to be bought. As far as I can tell so far, we've mainly just been covering the players that have exited the club after last season. So yeah, the club need to pull their finger out. Wilder clearly also wants/needs an LCB that will work with his system. Then if he's decided to play McNair as a CM this season, imo we need an RCB that fits wilders tactics better than Dijksteel. tbh I think McNair should be a great RCB in Wilder's style though, so if he's just covering in CM atm and will go back to RCB, then we need another CM imo, probably a proper out and out defensive one. So I'm gonna say.. 3. 3 actual proper signings, that show a genuine ambition to get promoted - there's £20m still in the kitty just from the money we've made from sales..
    • They only had the chance to lob in the box because we gave it away sloppily. Overall we were brilliant and should’ve been up at least 3 or 4 by then.
