Wilder said that Akpom didn't start because of his lack of conditioning. Which is a fair enough reason, but it's Wilder's fault for not involving him in pre-season.

End of the day if you go 3-0 down in the first half you can't complain when you come away empty handed at full time

If Wilder insists on playing this system of releasing the wingbacks upfield then he has to solve the problem of who is going to protect the centre halves when we lose possession. The best example was

If we made one more signing then it would have to be a proper defensive midfielder- we are absolutely crying out for somebody to set up camp in front of our back 3 and not move

id love to see Djiksteel in that role

Wilder picking two short full backs in a  back 3 against a team with such a physical attack has been interesting.

We need 7/8 players.

LCB

LCM

CDM

RCM

ST

ST

ST

Versatile Wide player like Giles and Jones, but mainly for the left-side (LWB)

Two out of three midfielders need to be starters

letting Payero go seems particularly daft now as he'd at least have provided another option in midfield. I think realistically we're only bringing in 2 strikers.

CDM is maximum priority though - and maybe then Howson can move to one of the CM positions where he's better suited.

Halftime and what a shitshow that was. We’ve become really poor without Tav in the middle and our attack is still nowhere to be seen. We need at least a top class striker, a top class midfielder and a good left footed defender. We’re still terrible going forward. It’s been like watching Warnock-ball multiplied by Pulis-ball.

Seen absolutely nothing from Forss in this half.

Could have Armstrong but what's he going to do with long balls vs 6'4 CBs

Physical presence ST number 1 priority

Physical presence DM number 2...

Btw what is Jones doing today?

Not playing well, is the short answer.  I think they seemed to be getting tighter to him than Giles though, albeit watching on a stream makes it difficult to really tell.  It felt like they are more concerned about him running at them than Giles crossing the ball from wherever he gets it.

To be fair, we looked awful defensively at times last year with dijk, fry and McNair. So who's to say that's the solution either? Maybe it's how they're being set up

We certainly weren’t this bad (actually, the last game of the season we were)… but take out Lumley’s mistakes and we wouldn’t have been far off the best defensive record in the league. Second half last week, along with first half today, have been absolutely horrific from a defensive point of view.
