Our game kicked off 15mins late due to crowd congestion issues, with 5mins of our game left, Jimmy Hill then put the Sunderland final score on the scoreboard, and they had lost, so all Cov and Bristol had to do was draw, we were 2.0 up at one stage but it had gone back to 2.2, and basically the last 5 mins we're effectively just played knocking it amongst ourselves as both teams had done enough to stay up. We havent been forgiven since, all be it they have no issue with Bristol for some reason, and half of the Stone Island brigade who appear to try and make trouble (on both sides!) weren't even alive - but hey ho! well played lol

Greetings and a good post. Just wanted to pick up that line there. What is your tactics btw because most of what I've seen in the past two games is just long hopefull hoofs up to Gyökeres and then hope he does something. He looked very agitated yesterday btw. Looked like a proper doyle much of the time with his moaning and throwing his arms around. Is he always like that? Looks very self centered.

I dont want to sound like a broken record (or like im making excuses!) but our MF has been decimated by injuries. Our preferred formation is 5-4-1 with a box midfield with 2 MFs behind Gyokeres, and high overlapping WBs. We would like to line up with Sheaf and Hamer in the defensive roles and then 2 of Allen/Palmer/O'Hare behind Gyokeres. But currently Sheaf is injured, and all 3 of our attacking MFs are injured, all be it Allen came on at about 70mins yesterday. Normally we are very good defensively, which i think you have seen, and Sheaf and Hamer are good at linking in the AMs to link up with Gyokeres, we normally have a lot more pace and "trickery" helping. We just havent had the players the last 2 games unfortunately. Kelly has come in since Sheaf injured ( he was in our L2 promotion team!) and Eccles is an academy player who has been made to step up very quickly, but has potential. It just means once we win the ball back, we are being forced to go longer as the only really creative outlet we have is Hamer who is sat too deep - hence the long ball! Your defense has been very good, and tbh against most teams in this league, Gyokeres is more than good enough to bring down a long ball, turn, and create something, even if there's 3 defenders in his way - just hasnt happened yet! 👍 1
estonpidge 1,661 6.2k
Sunday was pretty much our first competitive game for a few weeks, with resting players, avoiding injury etc. I think with the rust knocked off we should be snappier with our passing on Wednesday night, so here's hoping.

It's so frustrating when injuries curtail your team's performances, especially at this critical time of the season. We had a bunch of kids and academy graduates on our bench a fortnight ago because so many of our senior squad were injured, and even now four of the XI that was sweeping all before them during the spring are missing (Howson, Fry, Forss, Ramsey). Forss did get an outing on Sunday, but he looked rustier than a Lancia in Manchester. You might have blinked and missed the late substitute appearance of Darnell Fisher at the Riverside last week. He'd been out for two years before that cameo. There's another player, Matt Clarke, who probably won't kick a ball for us again, if he ever does anywhere else. Since we don't have Chelsea-like squad depth, those players have been missed, just as your first-choice midfield has. I guess we'll see whose walking wounded are able to walk with more purpose on Wednesday night...

Absolutely - i had been reading about your absentees last week on here and was waiting to see what the team sheet looked like yesterday. Not suggesting we have it better/worst than anyone else, just frustrating when they are all midfielders that are injured! would be nice if they could spread it out a bit 😂 p.s. this is where i think you may pip us over the line too - as looking at your bench yesterday it was considerably stronger than ours so feel you have more depth, but we shall see!

I have to apologise, I thought it was balderdash that fireworks were set off at the Boro team Hotel. Looks like a total idiotic element of our support did do it Anyhow the game itself Thought you were by far the better of the 2 sides I do think we might well go for a formation change on Wednesday, putting an extra midfielder in as that's where you had the control That'll leave Gyokeres up top on his own , personally I think he operates better as a lone striker You lot were favourites going into the tie and I would make you even shorter priced now, we just need to hang on and hope for a counter

Now Sunderland, they really know the meaning of the word "Injury" (in my best Monty Python accent). 1
