High standards marra.

If you're ganna be fickle, be the ficklest🤣🤣🤣

when the first goal went in it was the about 15 mins into the match, I'd never seen a ground empty so early lol

even the disabled section got up and walked out, hope the dole wasnt watching

was a fun match as a boro fan to watch, think you might of lost 4-1 that day lol, could see tho why the players didn't give a *** on the netflix documentary tho if they had to put up with that once the season had started to derail lol

Bottling it is where you don't hold your nerve and can't handle the pressure of a big game.

id argue we didn't handle the pressure of the big game,

we didn't play our usual style and were very reserved (compared to our usual style) over both legs. were a free-flowing attacking team and we were restricted to 3 shots on target over 180 mins of football. also, we were the only team across all league playoffs games this year not to score.

for one of the 2nd most prolific scoring sides in the league to not find a goal over 180 mins of football is a huge disappointment. to sum up how poor that is, the last time a team didn't score over two legs in the playoffs was also us back in 2018 under Pulis. in fact, were the only side in the last 10 championship playoffs to not score over two legs, and we've done it twice.

whether id go as far as bottling, im still not sure, but we definitely blew a great chance to get to the playoff final with two lackluster performances. and to have not scored a single goal now in our last 5 playoff (including the final) games is becoming a worrying pattern.

I'm not so sure it was the pressure of the big game, I'd argue we went into the play offs in our worst form of the season since Carrick took over, that was my take on it.The other 3 sides in the play offs were in good form.

the form was our worst, but relatively wasn't that bad still 2 wins 2 defeats and 1 draw.  i don't doubt it played a part, but i don't feel it was the key factor as i feel we let our foot of the gas abit once playoffs were secure and we knew we couldn't get autos.

we changed our style which i feel hampered us more than form, in the first leg for example, we were happy to play for the draw. against no side this season have we ever played for a draw. we've got out to win in every game in the regular season. We only had 5 total shots in the first leg , our lowest number of shots in any game this season.

I don't think that was typical boro on this occasion, I think it's a symptom of Carricks calmness that we have become one paced as a team we don't up our game when other teams do it to us. We play one way calm and controlled, it's almost like we play without a heart or passion purely with out heads/skill.

This is not me bashing Carrick in alot of games it does us credit and is great for developing young players, but in certain games doesn't work playing like that Sunderland one was prime example and Huddersfield when they raised there game second half. In them games I'd take couple of percent out of warnock shoes to get players fired up.

Thomas I can see where you are coming from and I posted something similar on a post a while back. Carrick has a calming affect which is both good and indifferent. I like his approach, he leads and mentors and it will serve both parties well. I agree in some games like the last I was screaming to get the ball moving, instead we played safe possession and on several occasion got caught out. I didn’t see the belief, the will, the want, the urgency. It’s just my thought I don’t like seeing players hiding and not making movement for options, players walking with the ball, inviting opponents on then turning to pass backwards. In cup games it’s about full on 90 mins until you can’t breath, cramp, can’t stand up.
What exactly happened will be debated for a long time but one thing for sure that wasn’t the BORO we have come to love.

I honestly can't see how we were playing for a draw in the 1st leg, 1st half for instance Akpom's effort deflected onto the post, Jones goal disallowed for offside, Coventry couldn't get the ball off us, both Giles and Jones were trying to create from both wings, and Akpom missed a great chance early on in the 2nd half with a header. Both sides were poor 1st leg, 2nd half, they cancelled each other out, and as the half progressed it petered out, but us playing for a draw not for me.

I suppose we at least know that Ramsey wouldn't have been available if we'd reached the final either.

Feel for him. Felt like he was on the cusp of really exploding onto the scene for us and then with the international tournament. Was probably looking at being part of a Premier league squad next season (us, villa or elsewhere) whereas now he'll be spending the summer getting over an injury and probably going on another championship loan. Must be very frustrating

He'll have to prove to himself & the club, or clubs looking to loan him, that he's not injury prone, would love to see him back at the Boro next season

Got the impression he was trying too hard against Norwich and as a consequence done himself a mischief in the wet conditions more than the actual challenge. Considering he left the Canaries with a supposed serious injury then two in one season isn't great.

It was definitely the challenge, there was a confrontation with Max Aaron's post match.

you've described two chances both in the first half in a 90-minute game, one of which was an offside chance, besides that we created nothing. we had 5 shots in the whole game, that's our lowest now of shots in any way game this season. our style all season has been fast-paced and attacking football is not what we got in that game.
but I admit we came out in the first half and did it ok but it wasn't our usual style we weren't pushing forward and were somewhat reserved. in the second half we were 100% comfortable with the draw.  I mean, we played it short from two freekicks 25 yards out that ended up back at our keeper after 3/4 passes and we put nobody in the box.

for me, we went out and gave it a go for the first half, but after that we  were happy to take it back to the riverside as a draw and put it on them at home,  but we can agree to disagree
