Boro v Millwall 0-1

Recommended Posts

For the first time in years I can't decide whether I'm pessimistic or optimistic about the season ahead. I feel like we're doing a good job of recruiting for 2-3 years time but right now it seems that we are significantly weaker than at our best last season. Combine that with the injuries and uncertainty over Chuba and I'm really not looking forwards to this game. I suspect a horrible game where we get 2/3 of the possession and no attempts on target while Millwall also get no attempts on target but win 1-0 after an own-goal from a corner.

On the plus side, I'm good at getting my predictions 180 degrees wrong so there is hope.

Team I expect

Dieng

McNair - Fry - Lenihan - Coulson

Barlaser - Hackney

Forss - Crooks - McGree

Rogers

Subs: Glover, Agyemang, RVDB, Bilongo, Payero, I Jones, Gilbert, Hoppe, Silvera

The lack of pace and natural width is going to kill us.

On the optimistic side, I can see us getting to 70 minutes, 1-0 down after an own goal and going nowhere. Carrick brings on Silvera, Jones & Payero for Coulson, Forss and Crooks and we score two quick-fire goals to ignite the season and go on a tear in August.

The team I would pick? Well we can't defend so might as well attack

Dieng

McNair - Fry - Lenihan - McGree

Barlaser - Hackney

Jones - Rogers - Silvera

Forss

Understand what you mean, can we go one better than last season only time and personnel will tell but there seems to be an underlying uncertainty at the moment surrounding the club and team.

We may very well be looking to the future with the team.

However the main thing is we face Millwall first game and despite having a awful first game of the season's results past then time to rectify that so am hoping for a fluid and solid preformance ending in a tight one goal win for Boro.

@BearSmog terrific opening post btw!

Based on Dom Shaw's piece this morning about Crooks in the 10 role and the piece about Rogers the other day, I'm assuming we're going to line up something like this:

             Rogers
McGree - Crooks - Forss
      Hackney, Barlaser
Coulson, Lenihan, Fry, McNair
               Dieng

Which concerns me to be honest, not really much pace or directness in that team, I really hope that's not what we go for. Me personally I'd much rather see an attack of:

               Forss
Silvera - McGree - Jones

you're very unlikely to see Forss back up top. It's abundantly clear that for whatever reason, Forss isn't a striker in Carricks eyes.

That's why I put that's what I'd like to see, not what I think we'd play.
