Gutted we Lost

Pearcey,

his transfers haven't really been that bad and under a different manager they may have been excellent players.

The only one that I feel he should not have bought was Mido I was against him from the start but tried to give him the benefit of the doubt.

But you must admit Gareth as a habit of buying players and letting them rot in the reserves.

Hoyte for me should have been given more games last season in midfield as well as defence, last night apparently he wasn't at the races against lowly Forest.

I really can't blame the guy he was bought from the Gunners and looked the part then Gareth started leaving him out for months at a time.

Emnes was left on the sidelines all last season,Alves was played out of position and then blamed for not scoring goals.Walker came on a few games last season and looked promising obviously needs a little more time perhaps another loan, but he is apparently looking to sell him.

Can you see where I am coming from here its not always the players at fault.

The guy is definetely not all there in the manager dept.

I say to you now if a decent manager got hold of them players at the Boro he would have a cracking team.

Sarge, I hope you're not one of those who's criticised GS for playing people out of position.

As far as talk of Walker being sold (apparently), the only mention I have seen of this was on skysports website and if you read the article it appears more mischief than fact (same as the more recent headline about GS moving on).

When Emnes was signed GS said he was one for the future, which reasonably explains why he didn't feature much last season.

Alves played out of position last season? - thought he was played as a striker. He had his scoring opportunities, when he wasn't falling over, and fluffed most of them.

Hoyte was bought to provide cover at right-back. I understand that GS's intention was to have players challenging for all positions in the team. So Hoyte doesn't have a god-given right to occupy the position and it would seem that for whatever reasons (since it doesn't have to be the same reason every week) Hoyte wasn't considered first choice.

Hi Birdie,

"Hoyte for me should have been given more games last season"

I just feel that 28 appearances since we bought him is too little for the 3mill price tag.

Emnes yes Southgate did say when he was bought that he was one for the future, but when you are lacking goals and you pay 3.2mill again for a known striker with a decent record you at least try him out with a few more games.

It took Southgate 11 months to give Emnes his first P/L start by this time the season was done and dusted.

With Walker I only hope it is nonsense, cos that would really put the cat a***st the pigeons as far as I am concerned that kid will definetely be a good un when he gets older and I wouldn't want to see another Cattermole fiasco.

Question does it say anything to you that the only youth players breaking into the first team on a regular basis are defenders,is this down to not having a decent attacking coach I wonder.?

By the way you cannot put Jinky in with those because he broke through a long time ago and its only by the grace of god he is still here after all the hassle he as been put through.

Finally to answer your question on playing a player in various positions yes I totally agree with allowing players to express themselves on the pitch in various positions.

But Alves was bought for goals and its obvious by all the video's that I have seen of the guy that he was not a centre forward,he cannot stand waiting for the ball then be expected as a lone striker to hold it whilst others move into attacking positions.

His goal tally came from running from deep and attaching defences with his speed and also he was a free kick specialist.

I will admit that if he had been alot younger he may well have adapted to a change of roll but we are talking about a seasoned striker who was set in his ways.

Its like you buying a goalkeeper and playing him as a midfielder and asking him to start producing telling pass's through to your forwards,it ain't gonna happen.

Play him to his strengths and you will see him score goals.

I betcha.
