Coventry v Boro 3-0

Recommended Posts

Seems like it’s been ages since we’ve played each other, 😉 going to be a strange one tomorrow, first home game of the season and got half the team missing that played against you last game, looks like you won’t have to worry about hamer, but we’ve still got plenty to cause problems, atmospheres going to be brilliant again, enjoy the game but not too much, and hopefully we won’t meet until the final this time😉 have a good season 👍

Definitely, we more or less knew exactly how we’d set up the last 3 games against you, we’ll be just as surprised as you tomorrow, the new lads still need to settle in ( some of our fans have written simms and wright off already because they haven’t scored after 2 games )😂 just need their first goal and they’ll be fine, wright is rapid and will cause problems, best advice after our first 2 games , let us score first and you’ll win 2-1 😉 what’s happening with Akpom ?

1. Will we finally beat Coventry?

Sick of blumming Coventry. Must be our turn for a win now. Hopefully they struggle with Hamer gone. Although I imagine they'll still be pretty good at shutting our play down, as they did in the 396 games we played against them towards the end of last season. I'll predict a 1-1.

2. Will we get anyone new in before the weekend?

No.

3. Is Chuba off?

looks like it sadly. At least we got a good year out of him and should get a big chunk of change for him.

4. Who are you wanting to see up front?

I'd play:

--------------------Seny-----------------------

--Mcnair Fry Lenihan Coulsson--

----------Barlaser Hackney-------------

--------Jones Rogers Silvera----------

--------------------Forss-----------------------

But I doubt that's what we will see!

5. Are you more optimistic after Tuesday's result?

Marginally. Should give us a bit of belief at least that we can win games.

1. Will we finally beat Coventry?

The Hamer news is very welcomely timed, so much so there probably isn't a better time to play them this season. But I still think we will continue along the current league trend of losing at Coventry. Really impressed with them in their opening game, they seem to go from strength to strength under Robins.

2. Will we get anyone new in before the weekend?

Nah. Probably easy for me to say that now though.

3. Is Chuba off?

I think so, yes. And I wish him the best of luck.

4. Who are you wanting to see up front?

So tough. I wouldn't want to drop Rogers so soon. But given how tight Coventry are at the back, I'd rather have someone up top who would know how to finish most chances. So it'd have to be Forss for me, right now. McGree behind him with 2 out of Rogers, Silvera and Izzy either side of him.

5. Are you more optimistic after Tuesday's result?

First win is important, we saw it last season. That Stoke away game killed us with the late equaliser after dominating the game and being dealt such a horrid blow from the referee to be losing. So yeah, it's nice to get a few lads off the mark and to be in the next round so I suspect the mood is a little more positive, as am I.

Hamer is a huge loss and the timing of it could be crucial for this game but I've confidence he'll be replaced well. Really impressed with Coventry's progress and a tough result to take on the opening day given your performance.

This post on the Cov forum has put things into perspective until Latte Lath arrives like

Absolutely massive test for Barlaser if he starts tomorrow, I assume they'll play Palmer as the link between midfield and the 2 lads up top so if he's allowed to do what Watmore did last week it'll be a bad afternoon for us

I think the right side of their defence is the weakness atm, Van Ewijk very attacking and new to the league and that Bobby Thomas I watched him vs Leicester and Exeter and whilst he's a man mountain he looked quite clumsy on and off the ball at times to me. Hoping Silvera starts as think he'll cause them both problems with Van Ewijk not knowing what to do with him drifting centrally and too nippy for Thomas

We can't score against Coventry, let alone beat them.

This is another season of transition where lower mid table seems a sensible ambition.

After last seasons highs,  I feel this is going to be full of the lows. Therefore it is clear that defeat is inevitable!

1 game closer to the tide turning and the knives coming out.

I’m optimistic. Apart from one moment of magic, Coventry beat us with 2 shots on target in that second leg game.

We dominated the ball in all of the games but struggled to create chances.

I feel a line up of McGree, Forss, Jones, Rogers and Silvera has a lot more fluidity to it than last week with Crooks. But I don’t think Carrick knows his best combination as of yet.  I’m hoping that Carrick has seen the error of his ways and drops Crooks personally to allow a more dynamic attacking third

Id keep the back 6 the same.

Seny

McNair Fry Len Coulson

Hackney Barlasser

Jones Rogers McGree

Forss

Silvera, Payero, Crooks and Howson to come off the bench and make a difference.

A big test for Carrick and his coaching staff today to show that we’ve adapted to a side who we know are going to be blunt and hard to break down. Cov, just like Millwall will be happy to let us have it and get done on the counter, time to start solving this conundrum.

I would wish you boys good luck for today but I'd be fibbing

Thought we played really well last week v Lesser in parts and I'm hoping we can continue but losing our catalyst yesterday is a massive body blow

Might be a good time to play us

Anyhow I do wish you well and hope the travelling fans have a good day but not result

Boro & Coventry come in to this fixture pointless after losing their opening games of the season, Boro losing at home to Millwall, while Coventry lost 2-1 away to Leicester City

Hopefully we can amend our playoff defeat from last season & get some points on the board

1st November 1924  - Coventry 2 Boro 2  - The 1st time we faced Coventry

Not one of our better hunting grounds this will be the 27th fixture Boro have played away at Coventry with the following record

Won  - 6

Drew - 7

Lost - 13

Goals scored - 27

Goals against -  39

We’ve played Coventry in various competitions over the years

Premier League

Championship

FAC

League cup

Simod Cup

Barbadous cup losing 2-1 (1989)

2nd March 2021 The last time we won away to Coventry, which was played during covid,  behind closed doors at Birmingham City FC’s  ground

After 11 minutes Dijksteel scored an OG, Grant Hall scored his 1st Boro goal when equalising in the 41st minute & with 3 minutes remaining, George Saville scored the winner

1st October 1988 Bernie Slaven is the only Boro, in our history, to have scored a hat trick past Coventry City, his 4th HT in total since arriving at the Boro 3 years previous, the clubs 29th away HT, our 122nd in total & our 1st top flight HT since 29th November 1947 when Cecil McCormack bagged a treble

26th April 1975 - The curtain came down on our 1st top flight season in 20 seasons & the 1st time we had played a top flight away game at Coventry seen the mighty Boro win 2-0, with goals from Alan Foggon, his 16th legue goal & John Hickton, his 8th league goal. If we hadnt had a bit of a wobble towards the end of the season, when at one time we looked like challenging for the league title, then falling away to finish 7th & missing out on europe, this win could have got us in to europe

15th August 1992 - The 1st ever season of the PL season seen the mighty Boro & Coventry go head to head in our opening day of the brand new season,  brand new era as Boro travelled to Highfield road with high hopes after manager Lennie Lawrence had steered the Boro to promotion the previous season, a great campaign seen us do well in the league & cups with an unbelievable last day victory at Wolves seen us finish runners up to Ipswich Town & join 21 other clubs for the inaugural season of the PL                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Paul Wilkinson has the honour of scoring our 1st ever PL goal, unfortunately we lost the game 2-1

15th April 2000 - Boro lost 2-1 at Coventry with Christian Ziege scoring Boro’s consolation goal, our only penalty v Coventry when he converted our 102nd spot kick

Debuts v Coventry City

1/11/1924 - Donald Ashman away drew 2-2

21/8/1876 - Graham Hedley home won 1-0

19/8/1978 - Jim Stewart home lost 2-1 - Our 39th used Goalkeeper

21/4/1981 - Keith Nobbs home lost 1-0 - Our 44th player to play only the one 1st team game

15/8/1992 - Chris Morris away lost 2-1 - 1st ever PL

15/8/1992 - Derek Whyte away lost 2-1 - 1st ever PL

15/8/1992 - Tommy Wright away lost 2-1 - 1st ever PL

19/8/2000 - Christian Karembeu away won 3-1

19/8/2000 - Allen Boxsic away won 3-1 - Scored 2 on his debut

19/8/2000 - Joseph Desire Job away won 3-1 - Scored on his debut

19/8/2000 - Noel Whelan away won 3-1

19/8/2000 - Paul Okan away won 3-1
