Boro v Huddersfield 1-1 (Hackney)

Recommended Posts

People will complain about our attack and lack of cutting edge (rightly so) but for me our biggest problem is the defence.

I had major concerns going into this season about our defence simply due to the fact we were losing most of our goals from the squad so the leaky defence would be highlighted more. This has proved to be the case so far as well as our goals drying up.

Unfortunately I can’t see us getting too 6 if this doesn’t change and tbh I can’t see it improving any time soon. You just can’t rely on us keeping a clean sheet no matter who the opponent is. It’s becoming more and more irritating.

Bit of a disappointing draw considering the opposition. That being said I thought it was a much improved performance from Cov.

Latte Lath looks like he’s going to be a handful, absolute grafter who chased down everything and already looked to be developing an understanding with Rogers who I thought also had a good game. He’s definitely much more suited to playing deeper and linking up play as opposed to being the focal point.

Thought the two full backs put in a shift. Engel looked defensively more solid than Giles or Coulson have ever looked imo which is an huge tick for him in my book as he’s admitted himself that his strengths lie offensively so while I didn’t think he impacted the game too much going forwards today I’m optimistic that it will come. Van Den Berg I didn’t think put a foot wrong coming into the team under difficult circumstances as I think he’s more of a central defender than a full back.

Biggest disappointment for me today was Silvera. He looks decent enough on the ball but he really needs to work on his end product as he really should have scored in our last two games now. Personally I’d drop him for McGree for our next game. I know that the game had opened up a bit more at that point and he was coming on against tired legs but I thought he looked bright.

Substitutions were puzzling for me. Why at 1-1 would you take off our new 5m striker and move a lanky midfielder up front. And even if Carrick was absolutely insistent on Latte Lath coming off, why not do a double change and bring on Coburn and Jones for him and Silvera. He must be thinking what on earth does he have to do to get a chance.

One positive that I did take away was that I could see what we’re trying to do with having a fluid front 4 who were all interchanging with each other. Would have liked to have seen Barlaser get on the pitch as I could see his passing range and Latte Lath’s pace in behind causing some real problems.

Blimey, some right misery guts on here at the moment.  Huddersfield have started the season worse than we have.  I'd be mega disappointed, and quite surprised, if we lost this one.

Well, I wasn't mega disappointed, but not far off to be honest.  Shoulda won like but still, yikes, I hope there is some real improvement to come, and quickly.

Said on the new Red Road forum, its a flip of a coin in how Silvera does here, he has pace to burn, is so quick he'll leave many a defender for dead, if he learns how to be composed & finish he'll be a big player for us, if his run of balloning chances over the bar continues he'll go in to his shell & end up been a talented waste, hopefully Carrick has a word in his ear, early days, he doesnt get his head down, just carries on, small margins in football

Read a few posts and decided to call it a day earlier. I don't share the negativity I saw.

Thought we were by far the better team. Lots of new players bedding in, once they get used to the system, one another and the division there's a lot of good ingredients there.

With a bit more sharpness and calm we would have had a few today. It'll come, I think
