I've not read the thread since full time, but I'd like to see Joshy continue up top... Until we get the form, we need that hold up player and he looked great..

I'd also like to see ELL in the CAM or wide positions.

I didn't hear any booing for Smith (not saying it didnt happen, it just wasnt widespread).

There are some really negative fans in the north stand, even at the best of times, it wasn't widespread but it was from a group of people sat behind me.

Couldn't understand it, especially when we were winning and it was an enforced change.

north side of the stadium is horrible, rammed full of moaners. in the east block 42 its sound, everyone is quite upbeat and joins in a bit when south stand get singing.

I was behind dugout and didn't hear booing for smith although I did for silvera.

I think the celebration on the bench at the end told alot ... I'm interested to know what happened Thursday night.

I just hope this lifts a bit of pressure off Carrick from the short memoried fans and we see another 7 to 9 points before going into the next international break.

Plain as day today to see the individuals that stood out but I must say, the unity throughout the team was brilliant to see even when we went 1 nil down.

Crooks did extremely well today but I'd love to see lath or Rodgers in that number 10 to give us pace around Coburn and not so reliant on jones creativity.

Have I missed something? What was Thursday night?

To be fair we don't really need our no10 to sit back and cover the right winger

Fair enough if its the right back but its a failure of the system if the 10 is having to cover gaps that the midfield should be plugging

Did you just make up a new gender for me?

I thought BU covered that one. It was the BOSC2020 night at the Riverside. At least Carrick and Hackney were both there as they both accepted awards, Hackney on behalf of Chuba also.

Doesn't have to be all that happened on Thursday and doesn't have to have involved the head coach of course but I can't imagine why anybody would be going to Rockliffe from the Riverside after an event like that.

Some thoughts from today. I thought the crowd were really excellent and got behind the lads - the last 20 mins was as good an atmosphere as we’ve had for some time. I’ve been going to games for 40 years and seen many teams going through bad spells, managers on the ropes and the atmosphere being toxic but today it felt like everyone wanted to get behind the team and manager. We don’t want to have to rip it all up yet again and start from scratch. It was important we scored before half time though!

I thought McGree, Coburn and  Jones were excellent but the main take away for me was we looked like a team instead of strangers. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that only 3 of the new signings started (the best 3!) - Carrick got the blend of experience, youth and new signings spot on. I really hope he goes with a strong team and not many changes on Tuesday - we need to build on this and add the new signings gradually. Maybe Barlasser and Latte Lath introduced on Tuesday.

Felt great coming away from the ground and really looking forward to Tuesday night now. What a difference a win makes!

Nice to win a game again.  Nice to do it playing ok as well.  Wilson said earlier about us winning in our way and I thought that was spot on really.  I think we just edged possession against the side that had the highest average possession in the league, which is far more like us than whatever we saw in the first half during midweek.  Southampton have their own issues of course but you can only beat what's in front of you, and we haven't been able to do that before today.

I didn't think anyone played poorly, which also makes a bit of a change really.  Having said that I didn't think much of O'Brien at left back.  Obviously an improvement on what we saw from Engel against Sheff Wed but O'Brien was still getting done one way or another too often.  Not his fault I suppose but we really need to sort that left back slot out somehow.  Coburn did a good job up front, should have passed like rather than taking that shot on, or at the very least you need to make sure you score.  His general game was good mind, same goes for McGree and Jones who were both threatening but also put a big shift in as well.

I don't know if we learned much from today except that we can still play a bit, and that the player's heads haven't completely gone.  I'm sure there will be some comments along the lines of us dropping most of the new players and looking better but I'm not sure if this game alone tells us that.  We'll see how things go in the upcoming games.  Overall a bit of pressure released but only a bit.

He had been moaning for a while because of a small knock, in the end the coaches got peed off with it and replaced him although we were then 2-1 up and he was starting to enjoy the game now we had the advantage.

Still not happy with Woodgate being asked his opinion though the guy knows sod all.

Then Carrick looked up to the directors box and showed them his bum, where Woodgate had wrote "Kieran Scott can't stop Super Michael Carrick", but it was in dead small font because there were too many words, so Gibson had to lend Scott his his bird watching binoculars that he keeps under his chair in case of a rare Greater White-Fronted Goose spotting over the North Stand.

How good is Saturdays when you win😂. Lewis o’brien although I’d like to see him in his natural position. I thought he was class at left back mind. Nobody had an awful game. Hopefully this kick starts our season

That's interesting but so heartening at same time to hear ... I made a point earlier, that for a man who doesn't tend to show much emotion when he presents himself for questions after the game/etc, that Carrick was as emotional as I have seen him since he arrived here, in his post-match interview.

Could really see how much this result meant for him and it appears WE as a club really matter more to him than I thought (and I have never believed for a second his heart isn't in the job)

Does make me wonder, if after Armstrong scored we folded and taken another beating, would that have been it for MC??

It is rare to see players make so much effort and carry on going (even after being one-nil behind given our luck lately) and go on to win the game when you're in the kinda form we have been in.

Shows there is a lot more unity still present within the squad than I imagined, as since the season has started, something has been amiss. Just not sure specifically what. Certainly not just new players settling in. I am still of the opinion that we signed some right duds but there's still enough in that squad to finish top half.

Anyway, great performance ... props to the lad Coburn, really is filling out and turning out to be a player. Add a few goals to his game, will end up being the man!

Well done to 'em all fo the first win. UTB
