Middlesbrough V Southampton 2-1 (McGree, Howson (pen) )

Enjoyed the game today, I don't think it can be understated that he went for alot of championship experience today bar VDB.

I think we will stick with this team now for a few games whilst we settle down and steady the ship. The balance of the team was far better than its been in recent weeks, I think Tommy Smith will come back in for VDB after Bradford. Im expecting him to play that game to build on his fitness. But that aside, I think we will go with that team.

Just a bit sickened to get back to my car after the game and find the windows to be smashed through. Scum.

Hope VDB keeps his place, seems to be settling in and even played some part in attacks. I think he will develop into an excellent player.

Was about to say the same thing. He’s come on leaps and bounds with minutes under his belt

Though with how we're playing at the moment we're more likely to kickstart their season. 🫣😱🙄

Told you they are ***😁

Well done. Good result lads👍👍👍

I really enjoyed that. The loudest the Riverside has been for a long time. Barring the pre match v Cov I thought there was an air of expectation at the Riverside and it was still quite flat at the back of season.

I’m not going to take anything away from our performance and say how poor Southampton because I feel we created their issues. Our first came from pressure. I was worried as though  if we conceded first we’d fold but it was the opposite. Could have been a larger margin. Something to build on, and I’m feeling a lot more positive than I was at 3:15!

It reminded me of the Norwich game last season, it was seen as Carricks first real test and we went 1-0 down early. I was expecting us to struggle but we came back into it and bossed the rest of the game.

Unfortunately didn't get to see the game but chuffed with the result. Feared the worst with that starting 11 and thought we'd probably be talking about Carricks resignation about now.

Sounds like VDB had a strong game. I think Fry and Lenihan will be looking over their shoulders at this lad. Seems to have everything to make it to the very top. Surprisingly quick for a CB to!

Would like to see Lath brought in for Crooks. I think him and Mcgree could floating around left and centre interchanging with Jones hugging out wide is probably the way we should go.

Happy for Coburn. I was left thinking after Sheff wed that his allround game was still a mile off. I'm assuming he really improved this game? Would be great to bring through a quality local striker.

RVB was a Rolls Royce today, plating LOB ar left back highlighted how much an attacking LB brings to the side and shows how much Engel really seems a poor buy.

Crooks always looks better when he’s got Jones with him, they have a great understanding.

Good point think we needed changes from the bench earlier as some of the lads were spent on the 80 min mark.

Coburn gave us as vocal point of attacks when he missed the chance couldn’t help but think Archer scores that

If we had archer in the team then we’d have beat Huddersfield, qpr, Blackburn and sheff we’d and been a point off 6th.

Some thoughts from today. I thought the crowd were really excellent and got behind the lads - the last 20 mins was as good an atmosphere as we’ve had for some time. I’ve been going to games for 40 years and seen many teams going through bad spells, managers on the ropes and the atmosphere being toxic but today it felt like everyone wanted to get behind the team and manager. We don’t want to have to rip it all up yet again and start from scratch. It was important we scored before half time though!

I thought McGree, Coburn and  Jones were excellent but the main take away for me was we looked like a team instead of strangers. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that only 3 of the new signings started (the best 3!) - Carrick got the blend of experience, youth and new signings spot on. I really hope he goes with a strong team and not many changes on Tuesday - we need to build on this and add the new signings gradually. Maybe Barlasser and Latte Lath introduced on Tuesday.

Felt great coming away from the ground and really looking forward to Tuesday night now. What a difference a win makes!

lath, rogers, silviera literally are strangers. it amazes my why the young lads and other new players were not given some bed in time. just thrown into the championship together after barely any training together. carrick is hopefully learning from his mistakes.

100% he'd have 6/7 goals already.

It will be interesting to know the background story.

Agree there. I have never seen a performance like today where it could be a make or break game for the boss. No nerves, nothing.

Was something special about it. I think Carrick's interview after the game summed up the emotion of it all as I have said ..

Don't suppose it matters and we move on .. I hope we can finally start stringing some wins together and climb the table well away from the bottom four.

I haven’t felt that way about a boro win for a while. I think it shows how much our fans want Carrick to succeed here, we didn’t want to believe he was a bad manager and probably nobody wanted to see him binned off. The win and the performance felt like a proper ‘were back’ moment.

Compare it to wilder last season I’d guess 95% of fans would have secretly wanted us to get beat if it meant him gone.
