Still think there are question marks over the use of substitutions right now.

Especially when players like Jones were dead on their feet, it was strange to leave them on till the 90th minute.

Yea I felt like he let things carry on a bit to long, but on the other side a few minutes after we were crying for Jones to come off he very nearly set up a 3rd.

other teams will sit in against us, still plenty of work to do

It’s not really teams sitting in that’s been a problem for us, we’ve still created chances. It’s the stupid break away goals we concede.

its not marking players at all thats the reason we ship goals. seen a bit of that yesterdays, but it was way better than other games/ maybe saints slow build up play failed to exploit it.

I haven’t felt that way about a boro win for a while. I think it shows how much our fans want Carrick to succeed here, we didn’t want to believe he was a bad manager and probably nobody wanted to see him binned off. The win and the performance felt like a proper ‘were back’ moment.

Compare it to wilder last season I’d guess 95% of fans would have secretly wanted us to get beat if it meant him gone.

You are bang on there mate, with the Wilder comment ... I absolutely want Carrick to succeed and it's first time I have seen that at Boro for some time. In dire form but it still felt we were largely together in wanting the same thing. There are/were the odd few of course, who were making comments at the game and what not but you will always get that

I just hope we can follow this up with another couple of back-to-back wins, as there is still potential for it to get pretty ugly but hopefully MC is finally starting to find something that works .. the likes of Jones and Coburn really stepped up yesterday, maturity on display was excellent

I am really hoping Coburn becomes a fixture in the starting lineup and starts getting a goal or two, as I have always believed in him ..

I would really like to see Coburn cement that striker spot, but for Carrick to give ELL a spot behind the striker. I know he's struggled with his finishing but he's done so much good for us IMO that he could really thrive behind Josh.

when i seen coburn up top with izzy and mcgree eitherside it almost didnt matter that crooks was playing and obrien was left back.

I thought Crooks did really well. Granted he has had some shockers. But credit when due.

that’s why I think we should start the same 11 on Tuesday if possible, get a settled team and some momentum going. I would like to see Lath in the #10 though or maybe Coburn dropping deeper and Lath playing on the last man.

Southampton still have pretty much a Premier League squad so if we play like that against other teams from now on we should be fine

They also have the worst defensive record in the league. They've shipped more goals than us. Far harder tests to come in terms of actually scoring goals.

They got relegated precisely because they don't have a Premier League squad.
