Thats my point, people still talking about stuff from 3 years ago, where is it now, when we need it?

He doesn’t play now - because we have a loan player who is exceptional.

Value of players will go down if they’re not playing.

I like Jones - I hope he has a decent career; in my opinion he won’t reach those values again.

I trust Carrick and Scott totally on this one - good luck to him though.

That’s footy.

I think the majority of people will agree that Jones was a good player for us for most of his career here. But they'll also agree that we can 100% improve upon him. So the decision to move him on will really come down to whether we use that money well.

Didn’t Jones win a couple of penalties last year as well.

The 12 goal involvements he had last season, even without any penalties won, puts him somewhere near the top of Boro players for the past decade or so.  If you exclude strikers, who will generally get more for obvious reasons, it's only Azaz this season,  Forss the season before last, and Traore a few years back who have topped that number.  After that you have to go all the way back to 2014/15 to find players beating those numbers like Tomlin and Leadbitter.  Even on his down year Jones had 8 goal involvements, McGree by comparison had 9 that season, when he was apparently brilliant, and he played 800 mins more than Jones who was rubbish that season.

What a story for Jones. What an incredible spot by our recruitment team. Brining him from non league, him becoming a Championship first teamer, now being a £5m player.

Will always respect and have a soft spot for the lad. Hope his career goes from strength to strength.

Proud of Boro for taking the chance on him and developing him into the player he is today too.

Farewell to Jones. He was a hell of a player for a season or two. I remember the game against Derby (i think) where he set up two or three goals with the exact same move - sprint to the byline and whip the ball back in across the deck. Defenders didn't have a clue how to deal with it.

Sadly his football hasnt been at such a high level these past couple of years with his personal problems and losing a bit of his pace.

Best of luck to him!

The timing of the sale is a real concern, with the possibility of losing Doak as well this window.

100% mate.  This is a good piece of business for us.  I just don't see why people are so dismissive of the lad.

Last year was one of his best. One of the best from a Boro winger in ages.

Winning penalties don't count as goal contributions for some reason.  Personally I'd count them as an assist if a goal is scored.  I think he won a few in his first full season as well, not to mention put a few crosses in that ended up as own goals that also don't get counted.

yeah don't disagree with this and @Borodane makes a good point, he was still having an impact especially earlier in the season and I think defensively he's a real asset with his tracking back but something wasn't quite clicking which explains the lack of minutes. I do think a case can be made that our style of play doesn't overly suit him too and he tended to choose the defensive pass rather than taking risks. I don't think anyone thinks he's a bad player but I don't think it's harsh to say it wasn't really working of late
