Echo going in quite hard on Carrick and some of the players this morning. Quite unusual for our local press. Be interesting to see what action we see this week. There is clearly a need to upgrade in several positions.

The big fear is this January ends up like last January - where Crooks and Rogers left and we just didn't replace them. If Jones and Lath are this season's equivalent and they decide to not invest I think the second half of the season could be really quite dire.

I'm not even thinking about Doak leaving. That would be a disaster as things stand.

I reckon they need to be looking at Giles - just from an attacking perspective, a striker, a midfielder and it seems a centre back - too much noise for one of Clarke or Edmondson not to be leaving.

The Portsmouth game is huge. They are decent enough at home and it will be a tough game. I really hope we can get Morris on the pitch for this one.

Why not?

Some of the biggest names in world football have gone there...albeit usually as they're winding down their careers.

He’s about to enter his prime years and is good enough to play in any of Europe’s best leagues.

Key quote is

while Carrick acknowledged the problem in the wake of this month’s home draw with Cardiff, events at the weekend suggest he is not even remotely close to solving it.

That's pretty blunt for a local journalist who is hoping to keep on good terms with his contacts at the club.

They wouldn’t be making the offer if the agent hadn’t given them the green light.

I get where you’re coming from - but it seems to me that we a huge problem if the only attacking answer is to get Giles. It speaks volumes about Carrick’s failure to be adaptable and work out how to unpick defences.

No one’s saying that I reckon

Just obviously an attacking LB with an unbelievable delivery is going to help in the home games

Especially one that has already proven to be top quality with that same team and manager

We all know the first bid is usually lower but my guess is we accept around 22 million with add ons for lath

That's a long way off that.

£22m would be by far the biggest fee ever paid by an MLS team, it wouldn't happen.

They're allegedly offering £15m there and that's already £2m over the record fee paid.

🤞🏻

Fingers crossed that Liverpool don't decide to offer to loan him out to one of them for a few million instead.

I want Doak to be sorted this week, as since it’s out of our control I’d rather him leave and we know and have time to bring a replacement in, as this could drag on to deadline day
